Here's a Jeff Beatty ad
Amazing what he thinks will hurt Kerry. In ominous tones, you learn:

- He traveled the world

- He ran for President

and worse, you find out .......

he windsurfs

Yes, there are Senators guilty of many things - but traveling the world and running for President are good things.

Now what does it say of Beatty:
- he has a purple heart
- he was a teamster
- he is a businessman

and you see him throw a basball.

What a joke! But it has a very nice Kerry circa 1984 picture.

1. Purple Heart? Teamster? Businessman?
That sounds like some guy I know who's... already in the Senate!

2. True
but those are not even his strongest credentials. His cookie company likely had far more satisfied customers than Beatty's security company.

I wonder what % of the people in MA can, after 2004, rattle off that Kerry has 3 PH, a Bronze star and a silver star. The Republicans thought Kerry didn't spend enough time in Vietnam - but Beatty's experience was the invasion of Grenada, where I think the whole episode was shorter.

But, the best is "teamster" - I wonder if that was a summer job in his college years.

I hope he gets the money to actually run this ad - because it is so badly done.

3. Response from the Kerry camp
Kerry spokeswoman Brigid O'Rourke took the Beatty camp to task for the ad, saying that, in 1984, everything cost less.

"Yeah Jeff," O'Rourke said, "it's called inflation. Milk was $2.26 and a dozen eggs were $1.01. Gas was 86 cents a gallon when Bill Clinton was in office."

O'Rourke also tied Beatty to President Bush's handling of the economy.

"In the eight years that George Bush and the Republicans have controlled the White House, gas prices have risen close to 400 percent, the housing market is in disaster and the economy is a mess. Jeff can tout his Republican ties as much as he wants. Massachusetts voters aren't stupid."

Brigid is so right, do Massachusetts voters aren't stupid. This is what we see now in most every campaign, the Repubs are trying to blame the mess we are in on the Dems.
