Fourteen debates - This is what
EOR is asking for during August. Probably a move to get some news. This is so extreme that he probably making himself ridiculous including in the eyes of his supporters (and it is probably a way to avoid debating, just in case Kerry decided to give him one round). Here is Elias's take.

1. That is pretty extreme

Isn't that more than there was even between Weld and Kerry - when both were very viable candidates in the general election.

That is nearly a debate every other day. With that many debates, they should all be one issue debates. This would be great for Kerry as it would get into details. Kerry has the depth to speak on every issue in depth - he is better when speaking of the details and explaining how things fit together. EOR went in circles and tied himself in several knots when he spoke on Iraq. (Not to mention, Kerry sounds wonderful as he intelligently and calmly speaks on issues and as Elias describes well EOR is not pleasant.

I don't think HRC ever debated Tasini, who I think had at least as much support. I would imagine MA is different and Kerry is a far better debater than HRC, but I agree asking for 14 debates is silly.

5. Weld and Kerry had 8 debates, IIRC
But Weld was actually a viable candidate, and EOR is just an idiot. EOR wants all the free publicity he can get. JK would wipe the floor with EOR if they were to debate. It might be fun to have one debate, just to watch EOR get thoroughly humiliated.

12. I was going to say, Weld was a legitimate candidate.
EOE is nothing more than a pain in the a**.

2. Elias's characterization of the proposal as "preposterous" is
absolutely right on the money. What IS EOR's real agenda, anyway?

outside of the state (in addition to giving some visibility to a candidate who has no following at all, as shown by the $ 30 K raised in the 2nd quarter.)

4. boy, is that constructive, or what?
:sarcasm: He doesn't want Kerry to help us to finally get a Democratic president in the White House? That sure sounds loyal to me. (And the folks who support EOR because they still condemn JK's Iraq vote. . they feel OK about this?)
Good God.

9. EOR doesn't support Obama.
He and the anti-Obama, pro-McCain, faux Hillary supporters are working together. I saw their endorsement of him on one of their nasty anti-Dem sites the other day, after he trolled their sites for votes.

Has EOR ever said anything in support of any Democrat other than himself?

7. So, this good Democrat is not just a friend of Howie Carr's lately,
but wants to tie down an able surrogate of Obama. I hope the "I need to give Kerry a message" Democrats are proud of what they have done. $30,000, that likely doesn't pay the rent for a campaign headquarters. It sounds more like how much someone running to be a mayor of a small town might need. Given his own wealth, he would be expected to have friends who could afford the maximum whatever it is in MA.

8. No surprise. Some of those people who pushed EOR above the 15 % would be happy that he does not
take part in the GE campaign at all. So, EOR's offer for 14 debates goes in this direction.

As for a campaign headquarter, someone pointed that the address on his website is the address of his lawyer office.

10. Is running the campaign out of his law office legal?
It would seem unless it was a single lawyer practice that would mean the others are giving a very large non-monetary contribution to the campaign.

(it was a post a few days ago).

14. That is interesting - and now he's up to 23 debates!
He either has an inflated ego or he really is a masochist. Can you imagine what Bush would have said to 23 debates with Kerry?

15. pathetic weasel
"I want a response from Sen. Kerry, not from a surrogate," O'Reilly said. "I didn't send (the letter) to Roger Lau. He's not on the September ballot."

I don't suppose he realizes that he comes across like a petulant child. Not to mention a nitwit. Does he really suppose that the people of Massachusetts would prefer their senator to charge around the state campaigning against this bozo to staying in DC and working? I think this kind of ham-handed aggression is likely to have the opposite effect from what he's hoping for.

If it sounds like sheer desperation, it probably is sheer desperation.

17. But Whome,
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 09:53 AM by karynnj
If Kerry did chase around the state campaigning - having 23 debates with this nitwit, he would then count the number of days Kerry was missing from the Senate and complain about that! All I know is that not just MA, but the entire country benefited from Kerry's advocacy and sponsorship of provisions on the housing bill and on his presence working on stopping the USB tax cheating stuff. That hearing was great and no one else there (other than of course Blum) was as clear that this was not just a US issue but an international one as Kerry. Of those there, only Kerry bridged the Finance and the international relations side. As Finance and SFRC both require becoming expert in very detailed, completely different issues, he might be the only one interested and knowledgeable in both.

Checking the two committees - he is the sole person on both:
Finance:

So - This is a problem that will likely need international cooperation and possibly agreements or treaties and there is only one senior person there who understands both - so MA needs to re-elect him - or the very rich will continue to cheat internationally. :)

18. Good point.
I do know this: there is ZERO O'Reilly buzz around here, even if I do live and work solidly in BlueBlueBlue Massachusetts (as opposed to where Tay and Rox live). Driving to work yesterday I was following a car that had an Obama bumper sticker AND an O'Reilly sticker (first O'Reilly sticker I've seen anywhere.)

I drove all the rest of the way trying to puzzle that one out.

Especially with Teddy sick I don't think O'Reilly has a snowball's chance in hell. We may be a vindictive, jealous, petty, backbiting voting public, but we're not stupid. :)

19. Same here. I've seen two bumperstickers for him: one here in Belmont.
(as blue as they come just at Harvard's door) and one in Western MA. Aside from that, nothing. Most people do not realize there is another name on the primary ballot anyway. I do not know anybody, including people who have not been positive about Kerry, who think Kerry will not be there in the Senate in 2009 (except those who think he will move up :) ).
