In defense of Kerry's endorsement
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 02:11 AM by politicasista
I went around to the AA forums (i.e. BET, Blackvoices.com to take a break from the vile here today) to read how others reacted to Kerry's endorsement of Obama.

Obama is very popular in the AA blogsphere (they dislike HRC/BC like crazy), but since the AP article was posted with the spin (you already know what it is), I decided to get a head start on posting because Kerry isn't popular on this side of the spectrum.

I decided to do post now before the morning bloggers arrive because there were a couple of posts urging Obama to reject the Kerry endorsement because, well, Kerry is still seen as a "loser" and they see his endorsement more as a liability than a plus, and I am actually wary about reading the responses to the article (if their any) because they can be really snarky and vitriolic.

I want to remind people that I respect supporters of Hillary and Edwards alot, therefore, have left them out of this post/opinion.

I know Obama supporters will be quick to bash Kerry

but I like this endorsement. I think it helps Obama with the millitary vote and gives him an experienced person to listen to.

I know people here are still bitter about 2004, but there are many things that have made 2008 easier than 2004 and 2000: Bush is a lame duck, and people are sick of him and the GOP, Rove is no longer in the picture, and the media is starting to come around (not completly, but slowly).

So, I know there will be people that dislike Kerry and say that Obama should reject his endorsement, but I think the opposite.

Though it won't automatically swing a thousand votes to Obama, I welcome all Democrats to help Obama get elected, and Obama supporters should do the same thing, regardless how you feel about Kerry. There are both integrity and classy men.

2. Thanks politicasista. And here's something else you can tell them -
you know at least one person who made a substantial donation to Obama's campaign, BECAUSE of Kerry's endorsement. And I suspect there are many more.

Great post. Thank you for supporting JK out there!

3. Question
I assume that donations made through the link in Kerry's email can be traced back, right? I did not do it yesterday, but plan on doing it today, and kept the email for that very purpose.

4. Yes. There is code in the link that indicates the "referrer"
For example, Joe Sestak's 2006 campaign knew exactly how much had been contributed to his campaign from people clicking on the link in a John Kerry email. (It was quite A LOT, btw, and I think jump-started Sestak's campaign and was a huge factor in defeating Weldon).

So, please do click on the link in JK's email when you go to contribute to anything he sent you an email about. That way JK will get some credit for inspiring your contribution. :)

I haven't posted that link, and don't want to after all the nastiness in GD/GDP. :hide: I didn't think that people that normally say good things about the senator go so low to bashing him and saying how this was a "low class move" by endorsing Obama.

5. two callers on Cspan this morning--
Both were black women, and both said they would not vote for Hillary no matter what; they'd stay home first. One explained that it was because of Bill's dissing of Obama right before the NH primary. Looks like Bill playing the "bad cop" is going to come back and bite them.

7. Great post, politicasista. You can also explain that the ground game
and organization are far more important in the primaries than the media game. Kerry has that list and he has the organizations needed to really, really help Obama. It's almost more the inside stuff that made this endorsement important. And, yeah, maybe it wouldn't hurt to mention that Hillary lobbied heavily for the endorsement, too.

8. Thanks
So far, not many replies (3: none positive, none negative), but if those comments were to come up, what you have posted helps.
