They'd get all over JK cos he was against gay marriage forgetting that marriage=religious/sacramental meaning not strictly civil. JK is always big on not legislating religious beliefs. Anyway, pro-gay civil rights Senators like him, Teddy K, and JE voted that FMA down. JK called that sort of legislation "gay-bashing" in a Washington Blade (DC gay paper) interview.

From the end of August-November 2004, I attended Washington Theological Union (WTU), a very liberal, very political Roman Catholic Graduate School. It was heaven, Kleeb. All those liberal friars loving on each other and just lovely, political spiritual conversation in the lunch room. It's right across the street from Takoma Park, which is the Gay Capital of Maryland. Seriously, rainbow flags flying everywhere, some that read "WE SAY NO TO THE BUSH AGENDA!" In the bookstore they sold pro-gay bumper stickers...and OMG such beautiful ladies... The Blade free every friday with something good. Too, bad grad work was too much for me. To think I lived in the same area code as Capitol Hill.
So you are in DC! If you want to know WTU is three blocks from Takoma Station Red Line. The Metro frikkin' rules!

I was the bitch from hell during the primaries to some of these people. BLM, she was always full of facts and calm and persistent, like she is now. Me, I told them I thought Dean was an opportunistic blowhard. And never missed an opportunity to take a trivial piece of crap and blow it into something huge and stick it in their faces. I was hard core. So I don't blame some of them for holding it against me.

But geez, you can see what they're like to deal with. And we were fighting for our lives back then!
