Anyone else ever feel like a moderate while here on the boards?
I myself am no moderate for sure, I guess if I could label myself it would be a traditional liberal but often times I feel like a moderate because of what some believe.

2. I don't go into GD much anymore but yes.
When I do visit that place.

And that's funny, because I am very strongly socially liberal (civil libertarian) and very much a fair-trader on economic issues. It's funny. Being around most people (albeit not my immediate family or close friends) in "real life" makes me feel like an extreme leftist, but then I sign on to this site and see what "extreme leftist" really means.

3. I am a moderate liberal extremist.
Aaron McGruder coined the term as a ridicule to those Democrats who couldn't stand Nader. I wear at as a badge of honor.

4. I cant stand Nader either
Claims to be a hero of progressive liberalism but is just talk right now, Barney Frank had a great criticism of Nader 5 years ago and it came as expected on the issues of Gay rights, he gave Nader hell for never bringing that up, gun control, and abortion rights. Hes a good guy, I wanted him to get President Kerry's seat :( but Senator Kerry is being great. I love Aaron McGruder btw, a sheer genius.

5. I love, just love Barney Frank.
Frank is the only openly gay man in Congress, pro-choice champ. He's in all the pro-gay-here-are-good-gay-americans books. BTW: Tammy Baldwin is the open lesbian in Congress and of course is a populist Democrat.

McGruder is a genius, but I am not so loving on him right now. Saw him on Bill Maher (don't care for him either, rude, rude, rude) and McGruder called Kerry (cos of the windsurfing crap) "a man running in panties."

20. Did he say that during the election?
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 12:18 PM by karynnj
As a Republican, he probably supported Bush, but did he (like McCain) criticize the SBVT?

I looked in the index of "Tour of Duty" and found:

"In an Oral history recorded by the Naval Historical Foundation, for example, Kolbe discussed the downsides of Operation Sealords, particularly working for Captain Roy Hoffman, whom he described as "an absolute mirror image" of Robert Duvall's brutish character in Apocalypse Now, who said he liked the "sweet smell of napalm in the morning."

His personal comment is harsher than anything Kerry said. So, is Hoffman's problem that Brinkley, using Kerry's journal as a prime source, exposed Operations Sealords as a nightmare of an operation which accomplished little while putting the sailors involved through hell? As he had a cordial relationship with Kerry at least up to the 90s, could he have misread Kerry's politeness (and tendency not to burn bridges) as respect for how Operations Sealord was run?

21. We used to have two Gay Congressmen, but
Gerry Studds retired. He was a good man, did a lot for the Cape and worked hard on the Fishing Limits and other bills for the good folks down there. Gerry was much loved in his district, which is how he weathered the page scandal. MA doesn't actually care if you are gay or straight, but can you bring home the bacon for the district? If so, you're in.

I love Barney Frank. I remember him from way back when he was a elected in the State. Good man, extremely witty guy. He's not my Rep, but I like him a lot. He would have taken out papers if Kerry had ascended to the Pres.

Not a whacked-out leftist like some of these socialist-anarcho-whatever the fucks. I feel downright conservative compared to these nutjobs, and I'm as liberal blue as you get.

23. Most Definitely. Which would shock my freeper in-laws although they
think I'm reasonable (I think). We don't discuss politics anymore.

In a few weeks we are going to Florida for over a week. Faux news 24 hours a day - actually I think they sometimes turn it off when I'm around. Lord help me - no internet access and only Faux news.

24. That is because some on DU are off the charts liberal
and make you feel DLC-lite for having common sense approaches to policy. I'm pretty liberal but seem moderate on these boards too.
