Jon Powers mulling run for Congress next year (26th NY district)
Yeah, that Jon Powers, the one who introduced Sen. Kerry in his Faneuil Hall speech on Dissent a year ago. (Oh my God, was it a year ago! Time flies I guess.)

Anyway, I liked him right off and was hoping that some day he would think about running. And so he is. (I asked him to run when I saw him at TBA last June. I am so happy.)

Iraq War veteran eyes race against Reynolds
By Jerry Zremski NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF
Updated: 03/30/07 6:41 AM

WASHINGTON — A 28- year-old Iraq War veteran who later started a charity to help that nation’s children is considering a campaign against Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Clarence, next year.

Jonathan Powers, a Clarence native, said this week that he has begun speaking with Democratic leaders in Western New York and Washington about a possible race.

Stressing that he is not close to making a decision about running, Powers said, “While Rep. Reynolds has been in there awhile, I think the best thing for Western New York would be a change.”

While Reynolds has focused on Republican Party politics, the 26th District – which sprawls from suburban Buffalo to suburban Rochester – deserves a member of Congress “who addresses the issues important to the people back home,” Powers added.

Is that cool or what? Capt. Powers is also a member of votevets.org and has appeared in some of their ads.

1. He would be fantastic
I would bet he is likely to get support from at least one Massachusetts senator. He was awesome at the Kerry event.
