Just got my first email from Chris Dodd
He's doing his own work of the angels: http://restore-habeas.org/

Dear whometense,

Last September, within days of the 60th anniversary of the verdicts in the Nuremberg Trials, the Senate passed the "Military Commissions Act."

The new Democratic majority in Congress has an obligation to repair the damage done by the Bush Administration and the Military Commissions Act to our international reputation and domestic traditions.

That's why I am introducing the "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007" later today -- it's a bill that would restore the writ of habeas corpus for individuals in U.S. custody, prevent the use of evidence gained through torture in court, and limit the authority of the President to interpret the meaning and application of the Geneva Convention.

My father was one of the lead prosecutors at Nuremberg, and he shaped my early beliefs about the importance of justice and rule of law.

Now, as then, our country should refuse to tailor its principles to the conflict of the moment, because if we do, we will be walking in the footsteps of the enemies we despise.

Can I count on you to become a citizen co-sponsor of this bill, right now?

This nation stands for the rule of law. When we abandon it, we lose much more than we could ever gain.

We've watched the current administration repeatedly retreat from those standards, thus making the world a more dangerous place.

The Military Commissions Act was a major step back for our country, and I was stunned when it passed the Republican-led Congress and was signed by President Bush.

With your support, we can reverse this course and achieve a different result.

Please take a moment to visit the link below; learn more about the "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007"; become a citizen co-sponsor; and ask your personal networks to do the same.

Thanks for everything you do to move this country forward,

Chris Dodd

3. Same here
Actually signed for his emails shortly after JK's announcement (no, I am not fickle :-)). I hope he succeeds with this, the habeas corpus things is one of the most disgusting things that happened in this disgusting period. And as I already said several times, I do hope that Dodd will get more traction soon, he is not perfect I assume (I personally do not know anything that I dislike, but then I only did very superficial homework on this), but he trustworthy, knowledgeable, experienced, seems truly passionate about important issues, and most definitely an adult.

2. I got it, too
. . worthy cause. His speech on this in the Senate was one of the best I've heard from him in years.

5. Thanks for the heads up, Whometense. I'll be honest, though.
Last week I went over to his site and discovered I just am not ready to even sign up for an e-mail or really get into who I want to support yet. I think it's like Tay has said in the past about a rebound candidate. I think I need to remain "single" at this time, and not even go out to meet someone new. Does that make any sense? Anyway, I appreciate you posting what he's up to, because I am interested, just not willing to do anything active -- even signing up at his website -- at this time.

7. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I haven't fully signed on, either. Just getting his emails, mainly as a "don't give up" signal to him, but also to find out what he's doing, since he's pretty much an invisible man in the media.

But I don't see anything wrong with remaining "single" - I consider myself single as well - not even "dating" Dodd - just looking him over. :-)

Someone in my office has taken me on as a kind of project, hoping to sign me on with Obama. We just had a conversation about this yesterday, in which she likened the process to moving on after a serious relationship. I kind of feel it that way too - that I'm not at all ready yet. I am ready, though, to send out a few signals about what I don't want.

8. I'm determinedly "single", too
so I understand how you feel. (I did sign the habeas corpus thing, though, since I feel so strongly about that cause)

10. I'm also remaining single for now
I did sign up for Dodd's email. But that's not really any more serious than waving hi to him from across a crowded room. Definitely not "dating" anyone yet.

6. Thanks. I saw it earlier today and posted it on GDP.
I signed up for his emails a few days ago. I like more and more what he says and wished he got more visibility from the media.

9. I like what Dodd has already done in terms of web tech
at his site and want to know if we can take some ideas (e.g. links to specific Doddcentric youtube, flickr, myspace and facebook pages) about design to use for help with JK sites!
