2. OK Let Me See If I Can Remember All This
It was brought up about Teresa complaining and being a distraction during campaign according to Newsweek book by Evan Thomas Imus was asking Kerry what he felt about that and he told Imus that it was more less bullshit. And there was one point that Teresa was upset but told Imus "Hey listen she had good right to be was talking about her sister having cancer at that time and was not in good shape and sure she wanted to go home due to that but that was for purely emotional reasons it had nothing to do with the campaign and his wife was given a bad wrap during this whole thing and he was very upset over it and when he read the Newsweek article he called Thomas and had him come over and talk to him over it. But it's done it's over and he was going to move on from it."

3. It Was Brought Up About Him Voting Against Condi
Imus asked him why? He said "because he doesn't believe in rubber stamping all these things. Was she qualified sure she was. I have said so many times. She is a remarkable lady and has a amazing life story but she was a key architect, implementor, and instigator in the failed policies of this war in Iraq and she failed to answer the questions in full and not always honest when she did there for I couldn't give her my vote." Imus said well according to Biden's bull that regardless the president deserves the cabinet he wants regargless of what ever the hell if your vote would have been the deciding vote would you have voted against her still. Kerry said a firm "YES"

5. They Talked About the DNC Chair
Imus brought it up about how people are saying that Dean is political suicide to have him as the chair and what he understood is that Kerry supported Dean. Kerry said he did support dean and that he felt Dean would be good for the party. And he also talk about how people under estimate Dean a lot just like they have him. Talk about Dean being good at the grassroots level among other thing and that to say he is political suicide is again wrong.

6. Thanks for the update, AD
I enjoyed this.

BTW, the date of the St/ Pats Day Breakfast is March 20th. I just saw it on the BostonDirtDogs.com Red Sox site. The World Series trophy is going to be there as a special honored guest. (No, I am not kidding.)

7. They Talked About Iraq
I can't remember exactly the details there I will have to listen to it again ang take notes and tell the details on that exactly. I taped it so I can go back and watch it again so I will report back on that part because I don't want to get it wrong.

One thing I remeber was Imus asking why is it that it has took all this long to get Congress moving on the death benifit deal on our troops. Why has it that all I once they are all scrambling the way they are to get it change from $12,000 to $250,000. Why just now. Kerry said "well I hope it was because of the campaign Don. I talked about it during my campaign and one time was in March but I hope that had a lot to do with it because campaigns do help with those sort of things. But we have more to do than that alone. The way it stands now a widow has 3 months to get off the military base and I want that extended to a year. We have to do all we can to help our troops and their families."

11. Kerry made joke with Imus
Said the reason the Patriots won last night was because he didn't endorse them. Imus said "Now come on is there any need for that this morning." Kerry said "no there is no need for it sorry and laughed." Imus said he had always supported and endorsed Kerry he even did in '96 in his senate race against Weld. Kerry said "Yes you have Don and i appreciate that." Kerry went on to say that he hoped he continued to do so and Imus said he would. Kerry said that if Imus done for Kinky Friedmon what he has done for him over the years that "they would turn those republicans down in Texas on there head."

14. On A Funny Note
Right before I'm went off he was talking about who would be on tomorrow and he said BTW tommorrow we are going to have the biggest phony of all on the show. Sen. Joe Lieberman will be here at and he said time. Then he asked one of his workers named Charles....BTW Charles what does that phony want anyhow? Charles said he wants to set you straight about how he has bee working on the raising the amount given to our troops families from 12,000 to 250,000 for two tears now. Imus laughed and said thats total garbage like I said he is a damn phony. Just like a lot of the others. Senator Kerry was the first senator I heard mention it. What time is this damn phony coming on and Charles repeated time then Imus said he would be there at that time.

15. Talked About Why He Lost Election
Imus said that the day of the election he was gettig all these phone calls about the polls were showing a clear win for Kerry and like a dummy he was saying Kerry was clearly going to be the winner.(Imus has took a lot of heat over that) What do you think cost you the election? Kerry said he felt it was 9-11 and the fact Americans didn't want to commander in cheif in the middle of a war. Kerry said that it was showed that he was going up up up until the Bin Laden tape came out and when it did then everything just flat lined.

18. The Cheney's Duaghter Was Brought Up Again
Imus was telling him what pork chop and his Lynn said on his show and said that many thought it was wrong. And Imus was said that someone from his campaign staff told him that while they were watching the debate and heard him say it that even they said that they knew that was a bad ideal(hmmmm....wonder who was the motor mouth) and that you started dropping in the poles after that. Kerry said he didn't say it to offend anyone and that he really didn't and he truly apoligized to anyone he may have offended over it and that he was truly only meaning to show that he doesn't feel that it's not a choice as many say and he was meaning it in a way that the families are close and love each other and feel it is just part of life. Kerry said that he hadn't heard about that playing a factor in the election that when Imus told him that it was the first time he had heard it. And he said something about learning from your mistakes.

44. I got this post all screwed up so just read the transcript
I watched the interview then tried to write down all I remembered about the interview. When I was reading the transcript this damn post I got screwed up. Hell I been listing to to many damn media pundits lately damn shit starting to effect how I think. Sheesh. So just read the transcript. Hell I've some of this shit about political suicide so much it must be lodge. But Kerry does support Dean. I think I was thinking of Scarborough speaking or something cause he is one that says that Dean is political suicide for the party. So as I said read the transcript. Major screw up on my part. That's what happens I guess when you don't type this stuff as you go. :dunce:

I heard the whole thing as I was getting ready for work, but AD's recall is terrific.

The whole conversation was pretty good-humored for Imus. He likes Kerry as much as he likes anyone. Genuinely likes him. That said, he'll insult anyone if he thinks it would stir up a controversy.

27. One Thing You Have To Remember
Imus I know pisses you off because I have cussed that fool so many damn times you can't count. And if it wasn't for my friend I probably would be like a lot of others and never listen. Because he is rude and arrogant as hell and ugly as hell on top of all that. Sheesh that man is ugly! But like with our hero as hard as it is to believe he likes Kerry and always has. He has taken up for Kerry more than once that's for sure. It's one of those deals he can say something but you let someone else say something he will climb their ass for it I know I have seen it for myself.

Imus gets pissed at Kerry but he always gets over it. I'm yet to see him not. That is one of the reasons he was so upset over Kerry not stopping the train at his ranch LOL. You just have to have watched Imus enough and you would know. He is like a damn baby when it comes to certain shit and when he doesn't get his way he throws his fits LOL. No joke. It is comical if you really think about it. And Kerry hurt his feelings when he didn't stop and he has whined ever since. But he is getting over it. Kerry knows how Imus is that's why he comes on his show and they do joke and cut up. Kerry ignores Imus when he gets in his moods he really does.

And Imus isn't some right wing nut job as many claim he is. Yes he is arrogant and a total ass at times. But a right wing nut wouldn't buck other Republicans the way he does and they sure wouldn't endorse a Democrat like John everytime you turn around. And Imus does just that. He catches a lot of shit from others for supporting Kerry and a few others and for bucking Republicans the way he does but Imus being the arrogant ass he is doen't give a damn. He is a registered Republican but like he has said before that don't mean shit to him. He will support whoever he see's fit and someone who has a damn brain and isn't a phony. He supported Kerry over Weld in '96 and hell you know how Republicans were about Weld. So go figure. So I try to give him credit where credit is due although it is hard and I have cussed more than once.

Also deep down the man has a big heart and loves kids. Him and his wife do a lot for sick kids. So really if people knew more about him they would be more likely to be like Kerry and others and overlook him when he gets in his moods. He is no where's near as bad as he sounds and looks. LOL.

30. **UPDATE** I said I would go back and watch the tape again to get
The Iraq part of the interview straight so here it is.

Imus was asking him about the election in Iraq. Kerry said "It was what I said on television it was a beginning. I think the New York Times had a great article on the front page yesterday reminding us of the Vietnam reaction how 83% of the people voted there. Same reaction there people were surprised and people were excited as well, but you see what happen.

Imus said Russert the other day asked you if Iraq was less a terrorist threat without Hussein and you said no, then he asked you if Iraq would be safer under a new government and you said yes. So my question to you is how can you have it both ways?

Kerry said "I believe the question he asked me was about being safer in the world in terrorism since Saddam was gone. And the answer is no we are not safer because Al Quada is now in 60 countries. And yes we have caught some of the top leaders, but but nobody in the intelligence community that doesn't believe that has been filled out at other levels all around the world and in more countries."

"Secondly we have not succeeded in joining in with the British, the French, and the Germans in an effort at getting Iran in putting their nuclear programs to bed."

"And thirdly North Korea has more nuclear weapons today than they did when the Bush administration began and those talks appear to be stalemate. So I believe the world in many ways is more dangerous than before Iraq."

Imus said well the question Russert asked exactly was "was Iraq safer without Saddam" Kerry said "listen Saddam was a bum, we all know that he had the intention somewhere down the road to redevelop weapons. But at the time it was not a terrorist threat that we had a Zal Quai going around blowing people up everyday it was not that kind of threat. We had two thirds of the country under a no fly zone and he could not fly a plane anywhere. We had sanctions and and yes they were being broken but it was still a country getting weaker and weaker by the day." "And yes I know your going to say well he killed 300,000 of his own people. I already know that, you know that, I hate that we all do. He was a bum, he was a thug, a terrible guy, but if Bush had come to Congress and said we need 300 billion and it was going to cost over 1400 American lives for democracy he would NOT have won that vote."

**Excuse the spelling and I tried to get it all down so if I missed something someone can add to it.**

33. Hmmmm, I like this part, tea leaves anyone???
IMUS: Well, David Brooks wrote on Saturday in the New York Times that a lot of Republicans are, frankly, mystified as to why Democrats, having lost yet another election, are about to name Governor Dean as party chairman, and have allowed Barbara Boxer and Ted Kennedy to emerge unchallenged as the loudest foreign policy voices.

I guess his thesis is—I don’t guess. His thesis is that leaders in the Democratic Party are appealing only to the elite and well-educated, while the Republicans have figured out a way to appeal to both the educated and less-educated classes in their party.

KERRY: I like David Brooks, and I read him a lot. But I just could not disagree more with that sense of what is happening in the party.
I guess his thesis is—I don’t guess. His thesis is that leaders in the Democratic Party are appealing only to the elite and well-educated, while the Republicans have figured out a way to appeal to both the educated and less-educated classes in their party.

First of all, the media, as you know, often conditions who is viewed as, you know, saying something. And if it’s conflict-oriented, they go for the conflict, number one.

Number two, there’s a lot more happening in our party than meets the eye: an unbelievable amount of hard work underneath the radar screen—and Howard Dean knows that and the party knows that.

And I believe that there’s going to be—you know, we’re all going to engage in it, an incredible effort to reach out all across the country to every sector of the country.

You know, I campaigned in Arkansas, I campaigned, obviously, in Florida and Louisiana and North Carolina and other states in the South. We took a $1 million out of Kentucky, if I recall correctly—raised $1 million there.

We did a lot more than people think. I only lost Virginia by 5 percentage points. I think we might have been able to do more there.

We lost Iowa and New Mexico—I think, Nevada by less than 1 percentage point. And turned New Hampshire blue, got 30 new seats—legislators elected in New Hampshire, got a Democratic governor. Democratic governor in Montana and a Democratic legislature in both houses in Colorado.

People—you know, you’ve got to look under the radar screen. There’s a lot happening.

39. my tea leaves say:
1. He is telling us not to believe the media, or at least that the media doesn't know all of what's going on.
2. He is working closely with Howard Dean as a primary mover and shaker in the Democratic Party's rejuevenation. Could not be happier that Dean will be Chair, although he didn't want to publicly endorse.
3. His next campaign will be organized and structured differently. Howard Dean will be instrumental in the fundraising and strategizing. Yes, he's going to run in 2008.

How did I do? :)

40. Really good
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 02:48 PM by TayTay
The media is publishing all the navel-gazing stories and is missing the grassroots stories. Everyone with even half-a-brain (and JK is much, much smarter than this, he has really good instincts) see this happening and is trying to figure out what the hell to do with it. (And somebody had an excellent effort right after the election with petitions to sign and audio messages to file and so forth.)

The Dems are tired of losing and might even suspend the firing squad and make sure that dissent doesn't get the better of us now. Hmmm, that opoosition to Howard Dean folded pretty fast. Wonder why? I know that the state party chairs had something to do with it, but somebody is telling them sonething. And money talks.

41. Not to re-iterate an old story,
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 03:07 PM by whometense
but I think Kerry's mention of his 3 million ONLINE supporters Friday night and in that Globe interview yesterday supports this theory as well:

''Running for president is a great experience," he said. ''It is a unique insight into people's lives, a sort of sharing of their lives . . . It is very emotional. I tell you, the number of people who were tearing up in rope lines, holding their kids out to you, wanting to be there for that moment, saying 'Take care of my kid,' 'Make sure Social Security is there for me,' or 'Make sure my kid has a good school,' or 'I don't want my son in Iraq.' . . . You come out of there with a huge sense of the power of this country, and affection for the American people and for the process."

Kerry's intentions to stay viable as a party leader and potential 2008 presidential candidate will be girded by a new political action committee that will be run by his longtime strategist John Giesser of Newton, who will also oversee a 3-million-person e-mail list at johnkerry.com. Meanwhile, Kerry said, he is working on a book, but will not reveal the subject. He said it is ''premature" to think of another presidential run but acknowledged that he believes he's become a much better politician over the past year.

''I think I'm a better listener," he said. ''I talk a different language. I got beaten up a lot over that, fairly. No complaints. You know, you've got to break out of Senate-ese and all that junk. By the end of the campaign, I really developed into a much better candidate than when I began this thing, and I hope developed into a better person."

42. It's all fascinating, but

it really is too early. However, There are a lot of Jefferson-Jackson dinners out there to be attended to. We shall see.

I do like the re-emergence and the speeches and the committee hearings and all that stuff. I think all is well.

43. lol, and Somebody might be using his cell phone
even more than ever now, making those calls...:)

I remember that there was some sort of panel discussion on Iraq on Cspan not long after the election, and it was in the Russell Senate building, and at one point the guy at the mic said to the room,"there has been a John Kerry sighting--that's what the flurry at the back of the room seems to be..." (or something like that)
Someone had seen JK walking down the hallway with Howard Dean, and I thought, Hmm, something is going on. Something's up and the media is ignoring it, and it's just as well. At the time we were all thinking about election fraud, but maybe it was this chairmanship thing.

I do think his political instincts are good, after reading The Candidate. And experienced? Yes. And media savvy. Three reasons to keep watching this guy. ;)

50. It takes him up until he wins the primary, March 2004
And it's full of a lot of nice little stories. I gained respect for him as a political strategist from reading this book. And I can see how, although he started off clear and strong, he had too many voices managing him later, when it got complicated. They weren't as organized at that point, and things happened like nobody corrected the statement at the Grand Canyon which caused such an uproar.

Recommended reading--I got mine from the library.

51. The part I liked
Was when he was in Iowa and he knew he had to give the best speech of his life and he remembered what his friend Ralph Cooper also a veteran from Massachusetts called him "the real deal" and he had Cooper on on his mind alot because he had cancer. Anyhow thats where he came of with his speech "The Raw Deal of * vs The Real Deal of Kerry!" And he only had 8 minutes to give his speech and then they cut the microphone off. He worked his ass off on that speech and he shocked the hell out of many over that one. That was the speech he talked about Bush playing dress up under the Mission Accomplished sign. And he told * if he wanted to debate National Security to "Bring It On!!"

49. 50 state campaign
He also seems to be agreeing with Dean's concept of a 50 state campaign. Most of the states mentioned were in the assumed to be red category.
