5. Can somebody respond to this comment? I responded a little,

but it's upsetting to read. This poster is a regular, and appears to be siding (without knowing the post) with the authoritarian right. Maybe someone can gently say what happened. I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

6. I tried to give her the references to the posts.
I do not know this person, so I cannot judge. However, it has been interesting to see several presidential candidates last week all agree with hot pursuit in Iranian territory, even if we know that it could be used as a pretext to attack Iran.

It is sad to see that we are back in a pre-Iraq-War situation, where the media are pushing pretext for a war (The Today Show this morning had a segment titled: "Are we already at war with Iran", that was pressing the idea that the US army should retaliate against Iran because they may be helping some militia.

This say, while I disagree with the kos poster, I think you may find a few bona-fide liberal agreeing with her, because Kerry made this declaration in Switzerland. Some people think you should never criticize your country abroad. I am kind of surprised not to have heard Hillary criticizing him, for example.

7. Yes, I know, but I think Kerry agrees with your assessment on
the situation we're finding ourselves in with Iran. I think he was trying as hard as possible to get the Iranians to blink, so that a new disasterous war doesn't happen. I hope they do. That's a pretty bad situation we find ourselves in where we're trying to get Mullahs and a nutcase like Ahmadinejad to step back from the brink, because Bush sure as hell won't.

10. Your post seemed to satisfy her
the problem is that no transcript is available. It would be great to get one - or even better to get tape. Kerry was far less critical of Bush than he has been in US interviews and in the Senate. Much of it is that he proposes things Bush is clearly not doing.

8. I'm getting reports that Sully has a nude pic of Harry Potter on his blog
First Boxer, then Kerry, now Harry Potter. This guy has truly jumped the shark.

13. Don't worry about Harry Potter LOL
Daniel Radcliffe is doing a play in London, EQUUS, and he has nude scenes in that play. He's not the first and not the last actor doing this and nobody in Europe worries about it. *g* Julie and I are going to see the play in April and we are really looking forward to it - not because of the nude scenes but because of the great quality of the English theatre. ;-)

Edited to add: I hope you don't mind that I copied and pasted your summaries of Kerry at Davos in a comment on Kos. It's really the best info we have on what he said, and it seemed to satisfy the commenter.

15. I don't mind at all
I wish I could have made a real transcript, but I think I came pretty close.

I'm looking forward to going to London again. This play sounds really good and Julie is a big fan of Daniel Radcliffe. We also wanted to see Ian McKellen in King Lear, but unfortunately it was sold out.

11. Thanks, Dr. Ron. Good post.
There was one more interesting comment that went on later in the day from someone who met Andrew Sullivan. Here's their description:

He was exactly what you'd expect a (0 / 0)

conservative, Catholic, HIV+, white gay man to be. He was charming, condescending and insecure.

Don't get me wrong, he's no dummy. I just can't get over the fact that his 'rationalism' is such an obvious reaction formation. After a while, it gets tiresome ignoring the elephant in the room so to speak.

12. Dr. Ron -- thanks for the Glenn Greenwald article
He actually goes pretty easy on Sully, but this part describes why I am less forgiving (I think that Sully is going to do to Dems vis a vis Iran, what he did to anti-Iraq war people back in '02/'03):

http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2007/01/andrew-sullivan-and-hollow.html#links

But Sullivan was not merely wrong on the question of Iraq and related matters. He was really one of the leaders of the ugly lynch mobs which impugned not just the judgment, but the motives and patriotism, of Americans who did not succumb to the errors of judgment and raging hysteria which consumed Sullivan. And it's certainly understandable that some people, particularly those who were the targets of that bile, are unlikely ever to think positively about him.

That nails it for me. I didn't read his blog when he wrote those things, but I read him last week when he clearly questioned the patriotism of John Kerry. Ugly lynch mob is right on the money, and that's why I'll steer clear of him.
