John Kerry, presidential contender in 2004, is the junior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts

I nominate the veterans who ran for Congress for their guts, grit, brains and heart. In Washington, veterans are too often seen as backdrops for speeches but seldom listened to about war and peace and body armor. Now the troops are speaking, and they will change the character of Congress.

2. one of the reasons JK is not liked by certain people

he always refused to just be the backdrop for warmongers and others. he had the nerve to lead and be a leader for peace. didn't play by the same old rules.

this goes for many other things. the pundits, media, big business, religious extremists bigots etc. they know JK means what he does. he isn't just playing to the crowd or using a strategy to win. they know he intends to go all the way with what he supports.

This is great! I hadn't seen it. Great choice by JK; I was also pleased by his focus on these candidates in 2006 election. I applaud his reasons, too, and also love the fact that his characterization of those vets who ran for Congress, applies equally well to Sen Kerry himself! I have in fact described him in those very words many times: Guts, grit, brains (OK , I use the word "intelligence", but still) , and heart: that's Sen. Kerry through and through. I've noticed that letters of recommendation reflect as much the person writing them as the person being written about. And here's yet another example!
