Obama smoked (and inhaled).
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 06:43 AM by Mass
This is big news on GD and GDP (that he said that).

I must have missed something, but it seems to me that this subject was already gone thru during the 04 election and that it was pretty much a non issue then. So, how does that make Obama such an audacious person. Honestly, the only question is who the reporter was?

1. Did anyone ever come out

and ask Kerry this question? If they did, I don't remember it. I do remember his mimed pot smoking gesture in Iowa when Peter Yarrow was singing "Puff the Magic Dragon." Maybe no one asked him because the answer was so obvious.

In any case, a few RWers tried to make something of it, but failed utterly, as the public emitted a loud yawn. A non-issue.

2. The question was asked to all Dems during a MTV debate in 03
Kerry, Dean, and Edwards answered straightforwardly they smoked, and everybody concluded it was pretty much it was a non issue.

4. Oh, right!!
Now I remember that. Thanks. And you're right - no one seemed to care. And why should they? It was a national joke when Clinton refused to admit it.

8. The "not inhaled"
thing speaks volumes about Clinton.

Patrick v. Obama
October 26th, 2006 by gitell

If you came here looking for a detailed analysis of tonight’s debate, you’re not going to get it. It’s not that I was on NewsNight with Jim Braude for the first half hour, which I was. It’s that I caught most of the debate and have moved on. Healey’s eyes were glassy. She looked tired to me while Patrick looked great. (Advice to candidates: talk to voters. Never tell an opponent they need to look at your plan.) The emotional toll is setting in. I suspect she’ll play out the next couple weeks like a good soldier, but, otherwise, she’s done too.

If Patrick wins on election day as it looks like he’s going to, he will immediately become a national figure. With the beating Harold Ford is taking down in Tennessee, Patrick will join Barack Obama as the highest profile African American government officials in the country. Add the possibility that Obama is testing the presidential waters too soon and Patrick could become the Man, period.

My view is that Obama did himself no favors with Patrick when he missed a scheduled fundraiser on Friday (”bad weather”) and showed up at a low visibility Saturday morning press availability. And to add insult to injury, he sandwiched this appearance in between his own announcement of presidential interest. This sent Democratic insiders in Massachusetts the message that it’s all about Obama. I’m sure he’ll regret this when Patrick is on the cover of Time or Newsweek or in a front-page feature in The New York Times.

5. There was a lot of rain on Friday, so there was bad weather
It also sounds like Patrick really needs neither support or money. The numbers look like a blow out. I think that long term, if Obama does not get the Presidential or VP nomination is that Patrick could eclipse him. Patrick's story of growing up on the South side of Chicago and getting an incredible lucky break and surviving in an environment that was likely culture shock beats Obama's less dramatic story.

Obama's sainthood. (No offense to Obama's supporters who may be lurking. I like the man, it is just the overhype that gets to me).

7. I love the Toles one!
I have nothing against Obamam either - I like him too. I just loathe the hype, same as you.

Sometimes democrats remind me of this old fashioned cartoon - where you see a ocean liner, and watch it dip dangerously as the passengers run in a mad herd from one side to the other.
