Let's get something straight.
Kerry and Kennedy did NOT "cave".

Well, at least not Kerry. I have no idea about Kennedy. Like I just posted on the openthread at dkos (and yes, kos is playing it that way, but it's kos. Whatever):

He damned sure didn't do it because he expects any gratitude from the "netroots".

More like the Boston Globe article on October 9 said,

Kerry currently has four political committees with a combined $14 million cash on hand, but a portion of that will be pumped out to candidates or party committees in the crucial final weeks of the 2006 midterm elections.

OCTOBER 9th, people. OCTOBER 9th.

All the time the "netroots" was hounding him this last week and a half, he'd already said he was planning to do this.

Sheesh.

I've posted this quote over at dkos before, and the people who aren't interested in facts remain uninterested in facts. It's a bit of a weak item, too, because it isn't a direct quote. However the implication is that the Globe reporter was told this by Kerry or a spokesperson. So between us, we know this is what really happened.

* Kerry already was planning to spend some portion of his funds in the final weeks of the campaign, where it was needed most.
* Kerry and his staff received a lot of feedback, some via the "netroots", that some money should be shunted to the DSCC and DCCC.
* Kerry sat down with his folks and did whatever calculation he needed to do, and decided to split $500K between the DSCC and the DCCC.
* The people who will really never be satisfied until he spends down to zero still shout, "not enough! we will remember! you won't get one more dime from me! I'll never vote for you! AIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAARRRRRGGGHHH!!!!"

i.e. Kerry did what he intended to all along, and the same haters continue to bitch and gripe that it isn't enough. Life goes on.

p.s.: sorry if someone's already said this on the other thread, I just had to get this off my chest and I didn't want to bury it on the other thread. I hope no one minds.

1. One more thing...
You all are great. Tops. Aces. I love you all, and John Kerry must be proud to have such rockin' supporters.

3. Agreed.
This hateful rumor was fought and fought well. A year ago, damn, Kos would have had the troops to bury any defenders of Kerry.

Now, not so much. We have made so much progress in a year. It's just amazing.

This was not a loss, it was a big win. The haters believe what they believe, as MH says. But there are a hell of a lot more informed people today than there were before. And Kos' lies would have stood if not for all of you.

You good people are amazing!

5. That is so true
I was surprised how many names supported us that I hadn't seen before. It also did become very very clear that some of the most negative people are simply not reachable, starting with the person who doesn't deserve to share the name Teresa.

7. It's because we show up and BOTHER to correct lies. Eventually it adds up

and many people begin to see that what they've been told for the 4-5 years before is a crock of a shit. Kerry is almost unique in that the facts of his record support our points which makes it a heckuva lot easier.

11. Where is that money anyway
I find 2006 reports on his Senate and KAP PAC. There's no millions of dollars in those. I'm completely confused about where all this money is supposed to be. Plus, in his Senate campaign alone it shows he raised over $8 million, which I'm guessing he gave away or spent on fundraising. I can't figure out where they're getting their figures from.

12. This is his senate account they are talking about.
they could not use the KAP account to give money to the DSCC anyway and they cannot use it for their 08 campaign either.

This is a LEADERSHIP PAC. I guess this is the most destressing thing. They criticize, but they do not even know what they are talking about.

14. Cash on Hand - $140+ thousand
That's what I don't understand. The Senate campaign raised $8 million but the last report says he's only got the $140 thousand on hand. The PAC has a little over $500 thousand. So where's the millions they're talking about anyway?

15. There is $8 million leftover in the presidential fund
"John Kerry for President," the organization, still exists as a legal entity. It's what is being audited. That is where the $8 million lies. There are 3 orgs, KAP, the Senate committee (Friends of JK), and JK for President.

16. So heyjohn got it wrong on the "war chest" -- there's only $8 million
not $14 million.

Well, damn, $8 million isn't that much. It is ever so obvious that it is now Hillary's turn.

18. It's all very confusing
So many accounts, so much money. :silly:

I don't even understand why the Presidential campaign is still raising money. Is that because that's who owns the email list? At what point can it say the 2004 money was spent and we're using currently raised money?

13. And? You wont stop people from talking, which is why Kerry should
have done what Kennedy and Clinton did. Announce it two weeks ago with a lot of noise.

Time to move on. There are more important things than to worry about what kos thinks of Kerry. Some of you did an awesome job defending him, but given that the phenomena is limited to two websites (kos and americablog) who have been attacking Kerry since the 03 primaries and that it did not spread really anywhere else, I would not spend too much time worrying about that.
