McCain is a liar -- Part I lost count

Iowa lawmaker says he didn't endorse McCain

By THOMAS BEAUMONT
REGISTER STAFF WRITER

October 6, 2006

A state lawmaker said today that presidential prospect John McCain incorrectly listed his name among several Iowa Republicans who had signed on as early supporters in the lead-off caucus state.

Rep. Dave Heaton of Mount Pleasant was identified in a statement by McCain’s political action committee Thursday as one of 13 legislators to have endorsed the Arizona senator, who is taking steps toward a second bid for president.

Heaton said he had met with McCain recently, but insisted during their meeting that he would remain neutral indefinitely and was “very disappointed” by the error.

“I have a great deal of respect for the senator, but I am not endorsing his candidacy at this time,” said Heaton, who met recently with McCain in Washington, D.C. “I also made it clear to them that I would not be making any decision as to which potential candidate I will be supporting.”

McCain is among five Republicans who have begun hiring staff and signing up key supporters in Iowa, scheduled to launch the 2008 nominating process for Republicans and Democrats.

Snip...

• Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 caucus winner and presidential nominee, planned to attend state Sen. Jack Kibbie’s birthday celebration in Emmetsburg. Kerry was in Iowa last week and plans to return later this month.

1. In regards to McCain, did you see this in GD. Vet issues votes.

Federal Vote Scorecard - 109th Congress, Second SessionChoose Your State:

Arizona Senators 1 2 3 4 5 Score
John McCain (R-AZ) - - - + - 20%
Jon Kyl (R-AZ) + + - + - 60%

If this is not a typo, it is the worse record in the Senate.

Kerry comes in at 75%. he seems to miss one vote.

2. That was on 4/26 so it was when he was with his family

right before his first wife passed away - it won overwhelmingly. I remember that there were posts here when he missed that vote that something was likely very wrong because he was a co-sponsor of the bill.

I saw the date at the top where they listed the bills and it was right after the Faneuil Hall speech - so I knew that was the explanation. There is still 1 vote that he and Kennedy both voted the opposite way - so he would have had 80%

3. I figured that was most likely the cause.
I didn't do the checking though. Thanks for filling in the blanks.

5. I can see why people voted against the Thune Amendment
May 2, 2006. From the Congressional Record.

The Senator from South Dakota proposes an amendment numbered 3704.

Mr. THUNE. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent the reading of the amendment be dispensed with.

The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.

The amendment is as follows:

(Purpose: To provide, with an offset, $20,000,000 for the Department of Veterans Affairs for Medical Facilities)
On page 253, between lines 19 and 20, insert the following:

MEDICAL FACILITIES, DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

Sec. 7032. (a) Availability of Amount.--There is appropriated for the Department of Veterans Affairs for the Veterans Health Administration for Medical Facilities, $20,000,000, with the entire amount designated as an emergency requirement pursuant to section 402 of H. Con. Res 95 (109th Congress), the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2006.

(b) Offset.--The amount appropriated by chapter 7 of title II of this Act under the heading ``National and Community Service Programs, Operating Expenses'' is hereby reduced by $20,000,000.

Mr. THUNE. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent to yield myself 5 minutes to speak to the amendment.

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator is recognized.

Mr. THUNE. I rise to offer an amendment on behalf of America's veterans. My amendment provides an additional $20 million for veterans health care, offset by striking $20 million appropriated under this supplemental for the AmeriCorps Program.

Among other things, my amendment provides more funding for the implementation of the provisions of the 2004 CARES Act, or capital asset realignment for enhanced services decision, submitted by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for enhanced VA service, as well as other actions designed to help the VA provide better and more accessible care to our Nation's veterans.

As we seek to restrain spending, we must carefully scrutinize our priorities. Our veterans must take priority over programs and some of the other priorities we are trying to address in the budget. My amendment does this with AmeriCorps. We must do everything we can in a fiscally responsible way to ensure our veterans receive the health care they require.

4. Hahahaha
McCain is such a loser. Didn't he recently do an event with Felix where no one showed up?
We need a list of republicans that even republicans don't want to be associated with.
I think bush* has actually succeeded in uniting his own party against itself!
