OT: Question to MA people about hotels in the greater Boston area
Sorry to bother you with this but as my friend Vreni and I are coming to MA in October we are looking for an affordable hotel not too far from Boston Logan Airport if possible. We'll arrive around 8pm on October 6th and would like to stay - at least for the first night - near the airport. But all the hotels I found online in this area are expensive (around $200/night). Maybe you could recommend some place for us to stay. It could also be in a greater distance from the airport if it is not too difficult to get there. We will have a rental car but it will be night and we have never been there before, so it's a bit tricky.

By the way, I know that you all have your lives and your work but if some of you maybe would have a bit of spare time to make the tour guide for us for a few hours or a days or so, that would be really very much appreciated. It's always more interesting to visit a place with a local guide than just do it on your own. We will stay at vacation resorts at Cape Cod from the 8th to the 15th and in North Conway, NH from the 15th to the 22th but we would be open to any suggestion for a guided visit of whatever places you choose. And I'm very much looking forward to meet those of you who come to the Manchester, NH Dinner with John Kerry.

1. We shall have to get you to Manchester NH
on the 13th. GV found a great Inn to stay at. Would that be okay? (I might share a room with GV there for the evening.)

Manchester NH is way too far from the Cape area to drive back. (It would take over 2 1/2 hours and it would be night driving. Not a good idea.)

We will talk more very soon. Make the Cape reservation only until the 13th. Then you can come up North to NH. We found a great place and a few folks are coming up and spending the night. (Just to hang out.)

I am actually not that familiar with Cape Cod. I have only ever been there twice in my life. Once in 1979 when I went to Woods Hole on the way to Nantucket, and then in 1986 for two days. (Any Mass-souls from the Cape on this board? I know the other Cape in Massachusetts pretty well, Cape Ann, but not Cape Cod.)

3. It would be okay to stay the night in Manchester
I already thought about that too. Unfortunately we had to make the Cape Cod reservation from Sunday to Sunday. But we could leave early; I will talk to Vreni about that. Could you make the reservation for the Inn for us? Or give me the address so that I can make it. And Cape Cod is only our "base" for the first week because thanks to our friend Uli we got a very special rate for the resorts which are normally very expensive. But we could come to every other interesting place in MA for a day trip, no problem. And we still have to find a place to stay for the two first nights from the 6th to the 8th.

By the way, we have a spare bed at the Cape Cop resort (it's actually an apartment for 4). So if you - or anyone else - want to come and visit us you could stay over night or even a few days.

2. My cousin just got back from Cape Cod the other day.
She and her boyfriend LOVED Provincetown, and couldn't stop talking about it. She did look a little disappointed that he was a bit more popular with the guys, but they said it was the greatest time and they would go back in a minute.
I've been there. It's a must-visit.
Can't wait to meet you!!!

7. I'm looking forward to meeting you too :-)
We will stay in Yarmouth at a beautiful resort where we got a really cheap rate (thanks to a friend): http://www.8664myvacation.com/resorts/cay/index.html. But we intent to visit the whole Cape Cod area and definitely will go to Provincetown - thanks for the tip! I also would like to visit the Islands (Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) if the weather will be okay for a boat trip.

8. I've been to Martha's Vineyard.
It's lovely.
Now I wish I was staying longer. Wisteria and I plan to visit New England for three days, two in NH and one in Boston.
This is going to be AWESOME!!!

9. Maybe we could do some visiting together
Or if you want to come a bit earlier you could stay with us in Yarmouth. As I said in the other post, we have a spare bed because the apartment is actually for 4 persons.

4. Hotel
There is a Motel 6 off the highway.

Getting in and out of Boston is a real hassle.

Unless you are on a really tight budget I think you are better off paying a little more rather than trying to drive in from the exburbs. There is a Holiday Inn pretty close to Fanueil Hall (corner of Cambridge and Blossom St)

5. Motel 6 sounds good for the first night
Thanks for the link! It's only for the first night because our flights arrive late. For the second night be could take a more expensive hotel in Boston (if we decide to stay in Boston that is) and the Holiday Inn seems nice and well located. Thanks again for your help.

6. Also, you can try this.
It is outside of Boston, but near rail service to get to Boston. And it's not that expensive. (And it's near the World Renowned Museum of Bad Art. Ahm, okay, that's an aquired taste, but still. http://www.museumofbadart.org/ )

Seriously, it's not a bad choice. You can get a room with two beds for around $100 or less, American. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/bosdh?rpb=hotel&crUrl=/h/d/hi/1/en/availsearch&ias=y
