I also posted in the pets forum, but thought I'd check out you rural folks- what say you? Any stories about what these dogs are like to live with?

1. Black mouth curs.
I have a black mouth cur, which looks very similar - not pups, she's spayed. But she is a wonderful dog.

3. She sounds like a great dog.
I checked them out, and they do look a lot like the redbones. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree..ha!

2. My daughter has one
It definitely needs more space than she has. So far it has eaten cigarettes, disposabl razors, new shoes, wallets, credit cards, etc.

6. We do too.
A puppy mill down the valley from our house breeding Redbones in cages.
Lucky for us, these dogs only raise hell about supper time. They are about 1/2 mile away, but it is amazing how far the Howling & Barking carries up the valley.

Arkansas recently changed the law that allowed raising mammals in confined cages, and I'm hoping to have this puppy mill closed down. If I could, I would put the owners in a small cage permanently.

7. I agree with you
completely on the treatment of dogs. There is no more faithful and loving friends than dogs IT HURTS ME TO THE CORE TO SEE THEM ABUSED.We have neighbors two miles away from the coon hounds that can still hear them. They are all on short chains. I would like to put him ( the neighbor) on a chain that stops right before the water and food dishes. He also has a horse that lives in a 15'x15' pen all the time. There is a pit bull chained at each corner of the house. It makes you wonder if he is selling something on the side. We have reported him to the sheriff but they say everything visible is legal.

5. Please do checking on the breed and buy from a reputable breeder

check with:

Contact: The Redbone Coonhound Association of America, President Christine Smith, 502-922-9916, akcredboneassn@yahoo.com

This could save you some big heart aches later.

more things when using pet finder or any other search engine on the net are:

1. If lucky you could end up with a healthy great dog from a good truthful reputable breeder who cares about the breed and where the dog is going. The odds are against you this will happen.

2. You could end up getting a dog from a puppy mill that could care less about breeding healthy dogs or good temperament.

3. You could end up getting a dog from a back yard breeder with the same reason as above.

Where ever you go, look for OFFA.org listings on at least both parents, learn what the health problems are in that breed.

Good luck.
