Non-techie needs HELP with goddamned HD converter box
Edited on Sat Jan-10-09 08:10 PM by kestrel91316
I have hooked up the box to my Sony tv (10+ yrs old, color, CRT type). I have rabbit ears (and HAVE had them for 10 years). The picture is fine as long as I leave the box turned OFF, lol, but when I turn it on the picture is considerably worse. And it won't display the set-up messages on channel 3 for me like it's supposed to - just says NO SIGNAL.

I am ready to throw the damned tv in the street and never own another one. What is the f-ing problem?

I am too pissed off right now. Gonna go put my Netflix DVD of the first 4 episodes of Jericho in the desktop and watch THAT (DVD player for the tv died a year ago at age ONE and I never replaced it - I'm not made of money).

1. From one Non-techie to another
Are you talking about the new converter boxes that are mandatory in February to receive the HD signal for older TV's?

Just a thought that perhaps the converter box won't work until the changeover. Use your old antennae until then as it works, then I think the new converter will work in February.

I don't really know - good luck! A phone call to your local TV or a check at their website should be helpful

:-)

2. Plain Rabbit ears aren't that good for the frequencies used for DTV.

Get a RCA 12 position DTV antenna. They are cheap and good. You can pay a couple dollars more and get a powered one.

The loop is for UHF, and the rabbit ears are for VHF.
I have that antenna and a home made antenna.
