Project Runway season 2 *spoilers*
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 12:40 PM by Pithlet
Anyone else watch? I know we had a few that watched last season. What did you think?

It looks like it's going to be pretty good. Only a few quibbles. I think they typecast too much instead of focusing on talent, though that's to be expected for a reality show. It seems they were going for reruns of last year's personalities in a few of their choices. As they were introducing them I'd think "That one's Wendy. That one's Jay (who didn't make it past the semifinals). That one's Daniel (Oh, wait, nevermind...)"

My favorites so far are Nick, Claire, Diane, and Chloe. Santino has waaay too much ego, which overshadows his substantial talent. Overall, I think there might be more talent in this group, but I think I prefer last year's group for personality. That could change as we get to know them better. As far as the judges, I could do without Nina Garcia again.

Episode 2 was an ineteresting challenge. I think they should have cut Zulema over Kristen. I think that was another personality over design choice. I think boring is more forgiveable than ass hanging out. Chloe deserved the win, for sure.

1. You hit the nail right on Santino's head!
And I agree w/ you about Zulema, but what do I know about fashion?

What I was surprised about was the media blitz after two episodes had already aired. I missed them and I was looking out for them. I think Bravo figured that out, too. Someone in promotions is getting fired......

I agree w/ you somewhat about casting, but we will have to see how they all get along (or don't)

I'm so glad season two is on. I love seeing what they come up with, I could never do that in a million, gazillion years!

:hi:

2. I almost missed it.
I'd known it was going to start Dec 7th, but by the time that rolled around, I'd forgotten. Someone posted about it in the lounge, which reminded me. I'm glad they had repeats :)

I know nothing about fashion, but I love to see their creations. Plus, I laugh my butt off through most of the episodes. There is drama, but the way it is edited it is so funny!

5. hmm....here's my take.....
Santino is a one trick pony. Technically he's good, but everything he's made so far are in those soft dreamy colors with a shredded ruffled thing going on.

I hate that Omarosa girl who let her model walk with ehr ass hanging out. I've yet to see anything i like from her, and I think the only reason she keeps getting to stay is because she brings the bitchy.

My Bet for winner is Nick? (i think) the guy who made ChaCha barbie.

And his behavior for the lengerie (sp? Spellchecker isn't helping) episode put him squarely in the HATE category for me. I think he should have been the one to go. His line was atrocious. I think he would have, but I suspect the producers weighed in and saved his butt. I never thought I'd say it, but I was sorry Daniel F had to go. But, I didn't like anyone's designs in this week's challenge.

he was ugly in that judging. what a jackass. he's in my hate category too.

9. Santino wins tonight
Nick probably had a better outfit but Santino was the better self-promoter. And that matters when working with a client...

Guadalupe is out. I would have kicked Marla but frankly either one of them deserved to be kicked.

It sounds like it was either Santino or Andrae. But I don't remember anyone using chiffon. It's a hilarious quote, and I've been thinking of putting it in my sigline. That or, Don't Defend the Shoe from last season.

14. I think the producers are keeping Santino around for "drama"
Seriously, there's a disclaimer at the end of the show that the decisions are made by the judges AND the producers. This tells me the results are manipulated for ratings.

After Heidi said to the other judges that this was time for Santino to get his auf wiedersehn I knew they'd keep him. His skating outfit was atrocious and he deserved to go. But still he hangs on.

Yikes!

For the Nicky Hilton episode, Marla stayed even though she blatantly ripped off her design from the Chloe dress pictured in the dossier, and aufed Loopy instead because her dress was so fugly. I think Lupe's dress looked like Prada next to Santino's mess this episode. I think they had Anne Slowey take Nina Garcia's place because they knew they'd have had to drag Nina kicking and screaming out of Parsons when they kept Santino around yet again. I call foul. The judging this year has so obviously been influenced by the producers. Although, the look on Michael Kors face when Santino's design came out? He didn't want to just auf Santino. I think he wanted to kill him.

16. Episode 7 was worth watching for one thing...
Tim Gunn on ice! And the designers in their skate outfits. Poor Emmit, in the pink poofy sleeved confection. And getting booted while wearing it, poor thing. Once again, it should have been Santino.

The designs for this episode were all pretty meh, IMO. It wasn't entirely their fault; I think that was probably the hardest challenge they've ever had, and with the crappy machine they had to work with, it's no wonder.

ETA that this is tonight's episode. I'm going to use spoiler tags even though the OP has spoiler in the title, since this is the only thread we have going for this show. Highlight the blank area starting here: Daniel wins and Zulema is aufed. I don't know the specifics, I got this spoiler because Tim's Take for episode 8 briefly went up on Bravo's official PR2 website. There were no pictures. :end spoiler.

19. I feel bad for her.
She had to watch Nick with his new model, and I think it really bothered her to see him work so well with Zulema's old model. And now she's probably going next week, because I doubt Daniel will decide to switch models. If I hadn't already known who was going to lose, I would have really been afraid for Nick. He took the model switch hard, and I think he really did want to go home. Daniel talked him out of it, I think. I :loveya: Daniel. I'm hope he wins the whole thing.

And was anyone else disgusted by Jay?! I really liked him last season, and when I found out he was getting his own show, I couldn't wait to watch it. I read a few things about him going all diva after the win, but I figured it was typical gossip rag fluff. He was a real ass to the contestants. There's a difference between constructive criticism and being a jerk. I saw Michael Kors shooting dirty looks at him, too, and I don't think Heidi appreciated it, either. After the show I saw the add for Jay's show, and I thought "Meh. I don't think I'll watch it, now."

He was acting like such a jerk. I didn't even see the ad for his new show, but thanks for the warning. I most certainly will not be tuning in. He has to know how difficult being judged in that environment is and instead of being constructive in his criticism, he was trying to be mean and flippant. I did not like that at all.

On the other hand, I'm with you on Daniel-- what a complete sweetheart!

24. I agree, but...
it only goes to show that this "realitiy" show is clearly being dictated by the producers and not the contestants. My girlfriend and I both thought that Santino's jump suit was CLEARLY the worst. Sure, maybe Nick was a little too ambitious, but at least his didn't fall apart and look like something Evil Knieval would wear to jump a bunch of cars with his motorcyle. I actually felt bad for Kara in this episode. I don't really find her particularly interesting in the show, but she looked completely uncomfortable in that oufit. She looked like she wanted to crawl under a rock and die, and it was sooo obvious that she felt this way. Nobody else even looked close to this uncomfortable.

And what was with Heidi Klum telling Daniel V. that if he didn't have immunity he would have been kicked off. That's BS. Daniel V. has proven to be the clear frontrunner, with only Chloe standing in his way. I would be shocked if he didn't win, and despite this design not being his best it was still better than Santino's and probably Nick's as well.

Santino has the whole Wendy Pepper attitude working for him. He is clearly not the most talented and neither was she, but because they are so inflammatory and controversial their personalities will carry them further than their talent. Because each episode is dictated by what Santino is going to do, and how is he going to help their ratings. It's all about the ratings, sadly. I think that in the end the most talented person will win (Daniel V. !!!!) but I think a lot of people have been unjustly kicked off to boost ratings and ad revenue.

25. What got me is what Heidi said to Santino at the end
That he had won a couple of the competitions and was strong in many of the others. WHAT??????????? Yes, he won a couple of competitions, but he has been in the bottom two more than anyone else ever. Why is he still there, except for his personality? I thought this show was about talent.

Daniel and Chloe are clearly the most talented. I truly hope either one of them wins.

27. *gasp* I actually like Santino's!
If he's not the ringer, he might just win this thing. My feeling is Kara is the decoy from things I've heard, and it's too bad, because I liked her line. I didn't like Dan's or Chloe's nearly as much as I thought I would. Dan's clothes were pretty, and I'd certainly wear them (I loved the white dresscoat!), but nothing innovative in the least. Chloe's was just plain awful. My order from best to worst would be Santino, Kara, Daniel, Chloe.

31. Chloe was making noises that she really didn't want to win...
...that's why she was called on it on the runway by Heidi and then by everyone else. But yeah, I was surprised at that, too, given how Santino had treated all three of them (Daniel, Chloe, and Kara) like shit, especially in the last two episodes. I think he should have been tossed after the jumpsuit, especially for poorly designing it (I think if poor Kara leaned over the thing would have split in half), not finishing it, and then bullying her into "making it work." (Apologies to Tim Gunn.) Maybe the reason why they're keeping him around is exactly because his stuff is "over the top." At that level of fashion, from what I understand, they design prototypes (stuff that nobody would wear) that are then adapted to "real life." Otherwise, I'm at a loss to explain why he's still there. If he wins it all,

I've come to really like this show. I started watching it one day when I was home sick and Bravo was running a marathon. I got caught up in it and now I can't miss it. When Runway and Dancing with the Stars end, I'm gonna be really lost. :D

I had picked Daniel to win, but he's been slipping lately. And I could tell that Tim's lack of enthusiasm really has him shaking.

And what was with Chloe picking Diana to help her with the final design?? That made no sense to me. I would have chosen Kara. I think Daniel chose Nick just to get under Santino's skin.

I thought the show was interesting -- I was actually starting to like Santino by the end. Nice touch about getting to know each designer more personally.

No way was Chloe's collection the best. I preferred Santino's collection to hers. I am very disappointed with that decision. I loved Chloe throughout the season, but that was not the best-- in fact it was AWFUL!!!!! I thought they were supposed to be marketable to the Banana Republic. Oh well, I guess they needed a woman to win this year, since a man won the last one.

40. Midway through the season I thought Daniel would win it
Daniel's designs were always sophisticated and understated, and quite well done. But toward the end the quality kind of started to drop off. I did like what I saw last night. I also thought Chloe did a good job, but some of her pieces were too much like one another (same fabric patterns). Santino's line was good in that it wasn't so overdone, but I had to agree with Heidi's comments that the sewing -- especially around the bustline -- looked a little bit off.

I had to cringe when Rebecca almost tripped on the trail of her evening gown while walking off the runway at the end of Daniel's show. I was hoping that would not be held against him.

In Santino's defense, I thought it was a bit hypocritical of Kors, Garcia, et. al. to diss him throughout the season for his showboating and lack of restraint, and then ding him for presenting a "safe" collection at the end. (I think my favorite line -- next to "Where the hell is my chiffon?" is Garcia's comeback to Santino in the lingerie challenge: "It's asthetically NOT PLEASING!")

I am amazed at what it takes to be a fashion designer. I found the whole season extremely fascinating and entertaining.

39. I agree with you
Although I have never been an admirer of Santino during the season, I really thing his collection was the best. I loved Daniel's thirteenth piece - and most of his collection - but it wasn't his best work. Chloe's collection was odd. Not her best work either. I still think as a collection goes, Santino's was the best! I think that proves that he was brought along, after some disasterous weeks, only to keep the interest in the show.

Remember the producers have input into who goes and who stays during the season.

41. they sure do.
i've noticed that there's a little disclaimer in the closing credits of any of the (very few) reality shows i've seen stating this.

i was thinking about how chloe was picked the winner last night and something kept bugging me. I think it was after she shouted "i'm a designer," in the end that it struck me. Project Runway is {i}supposed{/i} to be way for amateur designers to break out into the fashion industry. Now, I realize that most of these designers have shown and probably sold their product before, but when chloe said this i felt like something was amiss. chloe already owns her own store and sells her own product, to my knowledge none of the others do this. owning a commercial business that sells your line seems to fit the bill of"professional designer" to me. the only thing that she didn't have was recognition from the fashion industry. it almost seems that the other 15 contestants were already competing with a proven professional, albeit one that isn't well known. does this strike anyone else as odd?

42. That was always in the back of my mind
And from the episode where Tim visited each designer, it looked as if her business is very well established and successful in Houston. All she needs, apparently, is a little wider exposure and experience with doing shows.

But I think Project Runway should be a showcase for aspiring designers, those who can't for whatever reason get a business started but are extremely talented nonetheless. Daniel would have fit that bill perfectly, and didn't he say as much (tactfully) last night?

(Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Marla also a designer, or did she just own a store? She was never in the same league with Chloe, of course.)

I was rooting for Daniel but I wasn't disappointed that Chloe won.
