Medium?
I didn't hold much promise in this show, but I really like it. I like all the various story lines and characters.

Anyone else watch this?

1. Big time fan here!!
I refuse to watch CSI Miami on Mondays (and CSI NYC). This crime investigation unit theme has gotten old fast, just as 3 and 4 Law and Orders get old.

But back to the point I love Medium. I DVR them and rewatch them. I like the story lines (last week was a bit lame though), the plots, the cast, etc.

There are some other comments about the show in the "who caught the premeire of medium thread".

2. I think the kids on the show are good little actors
I kinda think the younger sister is the better actor, but the girl featured tonight is pretty good too.

I think the fact that the daughter is now having the same perceptions has really added to the storyline.

3. Actually both daughters have had "experiences"
Tonight the eldest, plus she reads mommy and daddies minds (from a few weeks ago), and the middle girl had the "imaginary friend (they found out he was dead).

I agree the kids are great actors. I hate to see the kids having the "gift" cause even more friction in the marriage, though.

I am gonna be lost next Monday, it won't be on here - don't know about elsewhere...

5. The first episode had a very right wing, homophobic spin
Has it reversed course from that?

6. How was it homophobic?
Why was it offensive to you?

8. I felt it was homophobic in two ways
By suggesting that the pedofile was gay, they perpetuated the false pedofile/homosexual connection.

The way they get the cellmate to confess, the medium tells the Marshall, tell him you know about "the kiss" - later she says knew the cellmate would either be enraged or embarrassed that anyone would think he was gay, and thus spill his guts.

Also - at one point the pedofiles attorney says to the Marshall, "Don't make me go to the New York Times" - to me implying that of course the "Liberal" NY Times would take the side of a suspected pedofile.

At the time the episode aired, I posted in the GLBT forum and IIRC, one or two other people had been disturbed by the same issues.

9. Was the victim not a boy?
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 06:11 PM by truebrit71
If a pedophile rapes a person of the same sex is that not 'gay'?
By playing on the false machismo of the cellmate in order to extract a confession makes it homo-phobic?
The NY Times reference was more of a slam on the newspaper than pushing a homophobic message.

I think that you are reading too much into this....

I was far more upset at the attitude of the Ranger towards lawyers and judges than towards gays...

10. I took the first episode to be a slam on TX Rangers more than gay bashing
I mean 20 some SUVs full of TX Rangers to meet ONE psychic..

I don't think there have been anymore references to homosexuality (I did not see it in this one though) and I don't think it is right wing at all. I think you might be seeing problems that aren't there, but have at it. It is refreshing to have something non-reality, non-law&order, and non-crimesceneinvestigator. This show is one of the most unusual on the 3 major networks.

12. Of course
The Executive Producer is Kelsey Grammer.

I have noticed a distinctive right-wing slant. In one of the early episodes the DA asked if Allyson would have problems with a death penalty case, and her answer was very much along the lines of "Of course not! DUH!"... Why on earth would anyone have problems with the death penalty?

Then again, I've noticed quite a pro-authority slant in "Law & Order: Trial by Jury", too. I'm still waiting for them to portray a defense attorney that isn't corrupt and/or thoroughly evil.

11. The whole concept reminds me too much of Profiler,
a show I really loved.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115322/

Plot Summary for
"Profiler" (1996)
Ally Walker stars as Dr. Sam Waters, a psychic detective with the Violent Crimes Task Force, a federal agency which often works with the FBI, ATF, and other crime-solving agencies. The VCTF investigates and solves such crimes, and continually chases the elusive man known anonymously as Jack, who has haunted Dr. Waters for years.

Summary written by Ari Herzog {ari@ici.net}

Samantha "Sam" Waters, a beautiful psychic detective, works for a quasi-independent unit, the Violent Crimes Task Force, using her incredibly sharp mind and analytical skill to piece together clues to violent crimes in cooperation with the FBI. While she performs all of her duties dilligently, her real motive lies in tragedy - years earlier her husband was slaughtered by a killer known only as Jack Of All Trades, and Sam and her mentor, Bailey Malone, are driven to find and arrest once and for all the one man whose existence reduces Sam to helpless tears at the memory of his brutality.
