Kevin Spacey confirms he's been asked to play Lex Luthor
From a USUAL SUSPECT to Lex Luthor
Kevin Spacey confirms he's been asked to play Superman's arch-villain

While speaking with Sci Fi Wire, actor Kevin Spacey confirmed reports that he has been asked to play the role of Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer's new SUPERMAN movie. "They want me to do it," Spacey told the website. "It's all a matter of scheduling."

Spacey has two reasons why he's mulling over the decision to go bald or not. First, he'd again have the opportunity to work with Singer, the director of one of the actor's most memorable roles in THE USUAL SUSPECTS. Second, since SUPERMAN is a big-budget, high-profile tentpole film it would give Spacey more opportunities in the future to do smaller scale pictures or theater projects without having to worry about money matters.

6. No Schumacher, but also no Singer on X-Men anymore
The switch happened about a month ago. They're still going to do X3, though.

than Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin in the latest Darin biopic. I've seen clips of this movie and I'm horrified. I don't think Darin even lived to 2/3 of Spacey's seeming age, and hearing Spacey speak Darin's hip, wise-guy lingo with his usual sarky monotone makes my skin crawl.

For my money, the best depiction of Lex Luthor ever is, believe it or not, Michael Rosenbaum's on the TV show Smallville. At least he channels the requisite power, cold calculation, and capacity to do serious damage that the character demands--none of which I can see Spacey carrying off with any real believability. (And yes, I saw "The Usual Suspects"; my eyes are still rolling.)

I know I'll probably get flamed for saying all this, because I know a lot of people worship Spacey here. But I just don't think he's that strong an actor, and I never have.
