45 minutes before new episode - here's my pet theory
Earth was destroyed in a war against the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. The Cylons were created to defend Earth.

1. What's your theory now?
The entire religious mythology just went down the toilet.

9. Still possible
Lack of human remains a problem.

Between TESB and ROTJ I had a theory that the Emperor cloned Skywalker to create Darth Vader, used him to kill A. Skywalker - and that Vader does not know he's a clone. Didn't work out that way, but I think my plot idea was better than the one Lucas took that required that Obi-Wan was not just a liar, but also a jerk.

2. I'm devastated by Dee.
Her death seems so senseless after doing what she usually does: strong, filled with clarity, and optimism. Something about her finding those jacks and staring at the photo of herself as a child, and the others remembering what happened there 2,000 years ago. Did Dee remember and figured, well, if I'm a cylon what is the point and had no fear of ending her existence as Dee, knowing she was gonna come back anyway?
It seems to me they're all Cylons. What is Starbuck? Obviously she did die the last time but why was Leoban(?) so upset, actually afraid of her?

Thoughts?

3. A Pandora's box of possibilities was opened last night
The cylons on Earth apparently were able to eat food and have children, so clearly they were sentient beings in every sense of the word and more advanced than the 12-models we have seen. Perhaps the cylons on Earth were not unique, were all individuals, and the 12-models were models of only 12 unique individuals on Earth 2,000 years before.

Like you, I was struck by Leoben's fear after he found out about Starbuck.

Dee could be a cylon, and those jacks were the ones she was playing with as a little girl on Earth.

Where did the survivors go? Who attacked Earth?

I can't wait for the next episode!

I have not seen such good television since I was a kid, and that was a loooong time ago :)

5. Interesting turns of events. (spoiler alert)
I did have to wildly suspend disbelief at the state of "earth" 2000 years after an attack. That they were easily finding relics from that long ago, sitting on the surface of the ground and conveniently grouped together like the jacks on the beach was too convenient and far too easy.

I also found the revelation as to who was the 5th cylon to be a "huh, so what" moment. It will be interesting to see, after a whole season of the "who is the 5th" build-up and suspense what significance will be revealed in the final episodes - hopefully some.

6. I got another. It's not really Earth. They followed the wrong course.
It was the four that led them to this Cylon planet. Earth is still missing.

Why?

At the end of Season 3. Kara comes back to life and says "I found Earth. And I'm going to take us there." Cue supposedly irrelevant and meaningless eye candy SFX.
The camera goes into hyper speed from the two Vipers, swirls around, jumps across the galaxy where we hear "On the Watchtower", and it settles on Earth.

I could be wrong, since it's been more than a year, but I remember lights, and cities on the dusk horizon of Earth in this scene... meaning that it's still inhabited by humans, or somebody. So this destroyed planet cannot be Earth. Just what the 4 Cylons thought was Earth.

7. Agreed that it may not be Earth.
At the end of last season, I looked hard to see if I could if see any recognizable land masses but they just descended through cloud banks. I assumed it was Earth because I thought I saw the Brooklyn Bridge. Now, I'm not sure, probably just a ploy to keep us guessing. Your point is well taken. So now I'm thinking they may be constantly destroying an M-class planet similar to Earth while in the loop of constant resurrection.

12. Here's the image I'm referring to

Looks familiar. And the constellations match (I wonder if they take into account 2000 years of stellar movement).

As for British Columbia - for sci-fi it is a bit like Austin Power's quote: "It's amazing how the English countryside in no way resembles Southern California.". All Earth-like TV alien worlds these days look "remarkably" like BC, and all fantasy worlds look like New Zealand.

11. It has happened before and will happen again.
Always curious to get the significance of that line. I think you're on to something there with the constant loop of destruction.

Did Moore write the NextGen episode where the Enterprise explodes just before all 4 commercials? That was a good one.

13. I hope it's not going to be something . . .
. . . like the BSG universe is actually in our past and that we are all decedents of cylons.

14. Resurrecting thread to smugly say I was right.
The planet we live on may not be the first Earth, but you can't expect me to be (staying with the greek names theme) Cassandra.

I know, lucky guess.;)

15. I Give You Half Credit
They didn't follow the wrong course. They DID find earth the first time. They were just given a second chance and found it AGAIN. ;)
