2. Be careful going to SciFi.com right now...
They have a Galactica story up there that gives out some major plot points for the first seven episodes of Season Two.
If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read it.

5. They just won a "Spacey" award in Canada as the best tv series.
I also learned that it's filmed in Vancouver and that Tricia Helfer is a Canuck.

6. Has anyone heard about a Region 1 DVD release...
for Season 1?

I am completely cableless, and so though I am spared the scourge of Faux News, Tweety, and the rest of all that garbage, I also completely missed out on the first season of Battlestar Galactica. I very much look forward to its release on DVD.

8. Fall I think

I know I've seen it someplace but couldn't find it on Amazon yet. Probably before Christmas.

Find a friend who has the sci-fi channel and a DVR and have them tape a copy onto VHS for you or burn it onto DVD.

Or get it off Bittorrent.

Or wait. I'm sure it'll be out eventually. In the meantime rent or buy Firefly if you've never seen it, or if you never gave it a full chance on broadcast TV.

9. The only problem I've found with downloading them is that...
The torrents usually link to the UK version of BG. Understandable, since the show aired in England before it did in the United States.
Which means they're edited slightly. And thus, there's a few scenes cut short to fit the UK's broadcasting standards.
Unless someone re-encoded the US broadcast and posted them as torrents, you're not going to get the entire show. Granted, the editing is mostly
seamless, but it's annoying watching an ep I downloaded and realizing that it's been edited.

What can I say? I like my sci-fi the way the writers and directors intended it.

10. I thought the US version was more edited?
taking out some of the more....steamy stuff...and editing it down for time. Plus they changed the theme song. I've never compared them. Are you sure the UK version has more stuff cut out of it?

11. Well, the donwloaded version of an episode (I forget which one)
Had less violence in it than it's SciFI counterpart and almost completely cut out the sex scene with Boomer and Hilo in the rain (you didn't get to see her spine glow red).
Now, I'm at my work computer, and the files are sitting at home on my desktop computer, so I can't check them until after 5 pm central. I'll go back and make sure I'm not just blowing smoke.

And there's a possibility that the versions I'm watching are not even the UK version at all...come to think of it, they have a "SKY ONE" logo in the upper right corner...I thought that was the satellite channel that was broadcasting it...And I do remember that they said BG would air in the UK first, so I assumed that these were the UK versions of the episodes.

Babylon 5 got cut a lot when it aired in the UK, something that JMS really, really hated. But he was wiling to let it slide, considering B5's fan base was much larger in the UK than in the United States.

12. You're probably right
Sky One is the satelite channel and most online are the UK versions. Look for a torrent of the U.S. versions. I know i've seen them I just don't remember where.

Otherwise just be patient. They'll be on DVD soon enough.

7. For the HD folks, UHD has been playing the first season
I'm not sure of the schedule, but it's great in High Def & Dolby 5.1!
