I have been very impressed with this season of Enterprise.
They actually seem to be trying to stick to canon now. I am really intrigued by this continuing Romulan hegemony into human, Vulcan, Andorian and Tellarite affairs. It seems not unlike what they did in the TNG episode "Redemption parts I and II" and in many episodes leading up to them, where they were trying to influence Klingon affairs to turn them against the Federation. I like this. I could have cared less a year ago, but I really want them to get a fifth season. This is great.

1. Yeah, I Agree, I Also Like the Multi-Episodic/Arc Format
Very cool...

Romulans as the invisible hand stirring up trouble! Cool!

You see, I'm one of those people who desperately wanted to like the show, then felt terribly let down and even infuriated when I discovered it sucked. There is just nothing in my mind more loathsome than watching tremendous potential wasted.

I've tried to watch a couple of times this season because I continue to read all the encouraging reviews here, but unfortunately I'm still unimpressed. I just couldn't care less about these characters or the actors playing them, with the possible exceptions of Hoshi (because she's hot) and T'Pol (because she's hot, and she's actually a pretty good actress in sort of a thankless role). Scott Bakula, whom I used to like on Quantum Leap, seems to have two facial expressions on this show: pained and/or pissed. And you already know how I feel about the Tommy Lee Jones impersonator.

This franchise long ago lost any sense of challenge or adventure. I just don't get a sense that life on the Enterprise is fraught with any real-feeling danger or mystery whatsoever, like I did with the original series and with other great science-fiction TV shows like Babylon 5 or the new Battlestar Galactica. Even Enterprise's transporters, which at the start of the show were supposed to be too dangerous to transport people, are regularly used now as a deus ex machina to rescue a dumb plot. Technobabble, a huge problem since TNG, is as bad or worse--whatever it takes to rescue a high-concept story that lacks character-driven action.

But I'm glad you all are fans and are liking it. Enjoy it while it lasts.
