Rapture Ready posters find dissenting bumber stickers "sad."
This thread just struck me as an amusing exercise in group-think and circular reasoning.

2. They teach their children that when they're too young to go to school
"Son, a perfect and loving God who never does anything wrong has decided that you were only fit to be tortured forever. He did kill himself to get you out of it, but you still better remember what a piece of shit you really are!"

That, and, "if an invisible voice tells me to kill you, I'm ready to do it. God demands it. Sleep tight."

Christians should not be allowed to raise children. Their belief system is abuse all in itself.

3. Careful, your post will likely be quote-mined at a later date.
Certain believers have shown their willingness to come in here and scavenge for quotes to make us look bad. You might just want to add to the beginning of your sentence "These particular..."

4. It's no use. The "these particular" part would be excised before the brandishing anyway. -nt

5. You've got a valid point.
My own parents were very well-meaning Christians who were very into avoiding sin, teaching the bible, etc. etc.

They were not racists at all were very reasonable in most ways.

However, they did take me to a church that set aside Sunday-school time to tell the Abraham and Isaac story. Telling a little child that the only right thing to do was kill him if gawd wanted it that way. Of course they said don't worry that never happens.

But the point is they should have known better.

They also believed in original sin so I was born a piece of shit who deserved hell.

Ask yourself this: If someone came up to you on the street, grabbed you, hand-cuffed you to a lamp post, doused you in gasoline and struck a match ... would your last thought be, "well this will be over quickly; I deserve to suffer this way forever"?

That's what they taught me. They never put it in those terms but that's the inescapable effect of what they did say.

I had to live every day trying my damnedest not to commit any infraction of any rule and then at the end of the day kneel down and tell gawd what a worthless sinner I was!

I loved my parents and they -- in their way, if gawd was okay with it, as long as we all remembered that I was shit, as long as I never did anything wrong at all...and still took the blame -- loved me.

They did their best considering the bloody nonsense they were committed to perpetuating.

But really, people who believe those things should not be teaching children.

I was going to follow your advice, but I can't.

I meant it.

The lurkers will just have to deal.
