Any fans in here? I ask because I've just recently started reading his stuff, he writes Horror and Science Fiction, I recently finished his Hyperion Cantos series and just first the first book of the Ilium/Olympos dualology and I think many here would find the themes he explores very interesting.

There is a lot of similarity with Pullman's "His Dark Materials" in Hyperion but in both stories a major theme is the idea of humans (and their descendants) turning against gods/godlike entities to defeat them and regain control or at least free humanity from external control. In Ilium Achilles and Hector band together to fight the Olympian gods! :)

Really fun and interesting stuff. Lots of fundamental questions like what moral authority or loyalty humanity has with or owes to god if anything can be called god and a lot of exploration of various religions and philosophies, even how new religions form or old ones evolve when faced with incredible developments in technology or understanding of the universe.

1. I enjoyed Carrion Comfort. It's the only one I've read.
I'll check out your recommendations. Thanks.

2. The Terror
is the only one of his I've read. Fictionalized version of the Franklin expedition to find the NW Passage in the 1840's.
