Beltaine - The Great Rite
Folklore / Mythology:

The God and Goddess are seen as the Young Lord and Maiden. Both are about late teens, early twenties. The chase, or courtship, that started at the Spring Equinox permeating with hormones and "spring fever" has now come to fruition.

When is Beltaine?

Wicca/Paganism/Witchcraft celebrates the Wheel of the Year with 8 major solar holidays and May 1st brings us Beltaine (bell-tayn). Beltaine means "bright/lucky fire", and is said to be the oldest known holiday.

Who is honored during this time?

It is the celebration of the union between Goddess and God. At this time of year, the Goddess' mother aspect is in youthful bloom and the God has reached manhood.

Why is it celebrated?
