Instead of Meetup how about DFA link ?
DFA link is free, while Meet up is like $9, IIRC.

In NJ all the DFA locals are getting off meet up, or are already off meet up. It may be the online DF alink tools are a bit better.

I think I'm going to start a DFA link draft Gore group, right now......

2. Thanks for the info, FogerRox
Another good way to start a grassroots movement for Al Gore. Thanks for taking the time to post.

3. Good idea, but I know the algore.org site,
which is one of the major draft sites, is using Meetup and it's the best way to keep these groups connected since they've already started that way and have over 90 groups already.

4. There is 1 meetup for draft Gore in NJ
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 04:36 PM by FogerRox
Way up north on the NY border. Meetups cost money, DFA link is free, Nearly all the NJ 4 Dean folk have switched to DFA link. And it can be synergenic. Lots of my networking is DFA link oriented, so building a bridge between the existing meetup network and the existing DFA'ers, I think, can be nuttin but good.

I hear what you are saying.... And you are right, & so am I.

Its going to be easy for me to get the DFA 'ers to a DFA link "Draft friggin AL GORE" group, using the online tools, buddy lists, messaging.

At a later date the 2 efforts will probably dovetail.

On edit...

I am not the first one to think of this... The Alpine/Tenafly NJ Draft Al Gore Meetup Group, also has a DFA link group, he he he.... covering their bases I see....

6. And, most importantly, we work together
We all want the same thing. We all want Gore in the race.

fwiw, I've suggested using the democrats.org event scheduler-thingie. It's also free and it is a good place to meet other Dems. I think AG-O went with the one that was better known.

7. You're probably right
I joined that democrats.org thing when it first started -- partybuilder. Maybe we should set up a Gore group there, too.

8. Okay -- I just went out to Democrats.org
There's already a Gore group and I guess I joined it in December! I don't think there are many members. I thought this site was great when it first started, but I haven't been out there for a while and I'm not sure how much people are really using it. I invited a bunch of DUer way back when I first joined and there are still 14 people who never logged on.

9. Not too good?
I saw it the other day but didn't have time to look at it closely. Our KSDP regional leader suggested we sign up there after the Bush STFU SOTU address. I know the Obama website links to it.

Other than that, I don't see why we have to be limited to one thing. I think we should use all available avenues we have to advertise meetings of Gore supporters on as many websites as possible. We've posted on local forums and blogs. Right now, most people we know are pretty busy with local city races. The rest of them are watching basketball. Things usually pick up politically after the annual Democratic picnic in June. The focus goes from people resting from the city races to the national ones.

10. I absolutely agree that we should use all available avenues
I wish more people were using the democrats.org site, though. I've been bad about not using it more myself, but it just doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic. It should be publicized more often and more widely. I got that first e-mail when it debuted and nothing since.

11. We were using democrats.org here in NJ during the congressionals
But I soon realized most folks using democrats.org in NJ were the same people I knew from DFA..... LOL. ITs got good tools. But you have to consistantly use them to network, to build up your contacts, or import email lists.
