While googling for photos I ran across this article
Although this is from April 07, it does mention the possibility of a run late in the year.

Gore campaign team assembles in secret

snip:

But, aware that he may step into the wide open race for the White House, former strategists are sounding out a shadow team that could run his campaign at short notice. In approaching former campaign staff, including political strategists and communications officials, they are making clear they are not acting on formal instructions from Mr Gore, 59, but have not been asked to stop.

His denials of interest in the presidency have been couched in terms of "no plans" or "no intention" - politically ambiguous language that does not rule out a run.

One of his former campaign team said: "I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast.

Perhaps this is old news, but thought I'd post it for discussion. Does anyone know if Michael Whouley has committed to any candidate?

1. About Whouley
Edited on Sun Oct-14-07 11:07 AM by marlakay
Just found this on Wiki about him:

Whouley is regarded as one of the Democratic Party's best field strategists and as a result has earned the nickname "The Wizard". Despite this, he is fairly reclusive and very rarely does media interviews. He avoids reporters as much as possible.

.............

It makes you wonder as I couldn't find anything about him working now either. He must know how fucked up the media is and able to work in secret. I have a lot of hope since finding this. I remember back in April when it was reported about shadow team doing a check for Gore but then it got real quiet...maybe THAT was on purpose!!

and then I found this:

The H-bomb in Iowa,” “press-shy,” “mysterious, near-legendary,” “the semi-reclusive Mr. Fix-It of Democratic presidential hopefuls,” Michael Whouley ’81 is a Boston native and a principal and founder in the Boston-based Dewey Square Group. An expert on grassroots campaigning, he was instrumental in Kerry’s victory in the Iowa primary, the turning point in Kerry’s bid for the Democratic nomination. Kerry has called him “the magical Michael Whouley.”

..............

The more I check on this guy the more I realize Gore could be doing something in secret and this is who he would be doing it with....very intriguing!

2. More on Whouley: He runs Dewey Square Group.
From sourcewatch: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Michael_J._Whouley

The Dewey Square Group: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Dewey_Square_Group#Clients

and, from my googling, it appears that Denis Leary will portray him HBO's "Recount" movie.

3. In your first link I found this snippet.,
The U.S. News and World Report profile (Jul. 19, 2004) stressed his single-minded focus:

believes in winning, in secrecy, in power, in clout, in order, in organization, in loyalty. He believes in John Kerry (just as he believed in Al Gore and Bill Clinton)

4. This just gets more and more interesting
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/19/AR2007021900972.html

This link I posted is to a story in the post that talks about the company that Mark Penn owns Burson-Marsteller owns a bunch of other companies and one of them is Dewey Square Group!!! and it mentions Whouley's name...so is he secretly working for Hillary or Gore???

In the past he is the one to help get Bill elected and work for him but he also worked for Gore and Kerry...in one article it said he likes to "love" his candidates and has total loyalty to them.

So if he is loyal to both Bill and Gore, who would he choose to work for?????????

9. More info.
Still can't find anything about current activites (I need to look up more on the Atlas Project and his involvement with the DCCC) but here's some more background information.

http://www.zoominfo.com/people/Whouley_Michael_8003449.aspx

The Atlas Project was organized in July 2006 by three of the Democratic Party's "top field organizers"—"political operatives" Steve Rosenthal, Michael Whouley and Mary Beth Cahill—"to provide their party's 2008 presidential nominee with road maps to victory in the dozen or so battleground states."<1>

From December 2006

December 08, 2006

***

One Democrat said that Clinton's team hopes that Michael Whouley, the vaunted Democratic strategist who masterminded Sen. John Kerry's come-from-behind win in the Iowa caucuses and Al Gore's popular vote victory in 2000, would join her team later in the year. But Democrats close to Whouley say he will wait to see whether Kerry runs again before making any other decisions. Whouley is a principal of the Atlas Project, which aims to increase Democratic performance in presidential elections, and would likely play a key role in the Democratic nominee's general election campaign, regardless of who that nominee may be.

As for your PM, the event is up in the air right now. I'll keep you posted on any updates.
