False alarm prompts Osan lockdown

OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — An Air Force dog that reacted to a delivery truck trying to enter the base on Monday morning led security officers to lock down Osan to vehicles for several hours.

No threat was found, however, officials said.

“The dog alerted and then we came through and went through our procedures and everything turned out to be cleared in the end,” said Capt. John Ross, 51st Fighter Wing spokesman.

“The dogs are too sensitive at times,” he added, “but we’d rather have a false alarm than miss a real attack or an illegal activity, should it happen.”

The base was closed around 10:55 a.m. after a security dog at the Beta Gate alerted police to a delivery truck waiting to enter the installation, said Senior Master Sgt. Marvin Krause, also a wing spokesman.
