Langley to test Raptor at all hours next week

HAMPTON, Va. — Troops at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton are gearing up for an exercise to test their ability to go to war.

Airmen from the 1st Fighter Wing will participate in the exercise all next week, which may cause increased noise and congestion at the base’s gates.

The Air Force said the exercise will run 24 hours a day. It will include F-22A Raptor flights at various times, smoke machines and noise machines to simulate the front lines of a deployed location.

According to a press release, the exercise tests the wing’s ability to survive and operate at a deployed location. It also will test its ability to perform its mission in severe conditions, and respond to and recover from chemical and conventional attacks.
