New EOD unit to be established at Little Creek

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Navy is establishing a new explosive ordnance disposal unit at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach.

Officials say the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 12 will be used to diffuse homemade bombs, more conventional ordnance and weapons of mass destruction.

The new unit will bring the total number of mobile explosive ordnance disposal units stationed at Little Creek’s EOD Group 2 to three.

Navy Cmdr. Joseph Polanin will take the helm of the unit, which includes more than 100 bomb technicians.
