BAGHDAD — Two soldiers were killed by roadside bombs in separate incidents in Iraq this weekend, the military said Sunday.

One soldier was killed and another three were wounded on Sunday when a bomb exploded near their vehicle during an operation in southern Baghdad, the military said in a statement.

Units in that area are carrying out patrols along with the Iraqi army and police “in order to disrupt terrorist and extremist elements operating in this section of the Iraqi capital,” the statement said.

On Saturday, a soldier died when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle during an operation in the restive Diyala province which lies northeast of Baghdad, the military said. It did not specify where the operation took place.

The soldiers’ identities were being withheld pending notification of their families.
