A sailor is missing from the destroyer Hopper in the Arabian Sea. According to information from Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain, the sailor was last seen at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Hopper, cruiser Port Royal and frigate Ingraham, as well as embarked helicopters, began the search following a ‘man overboard’ call.
After more than 30 hours of searching, the effort was called off but the sailor remained missing, according to Lt. John Gay, a spokesman at Naval Forces Central Command public affairs.
Gay said the sea at the time was calm and the temperature warm, about 79 degrees, giving hope that the sailor would be located.
“The conditions were favorable,” Gay said.
