New all-weather parka hard to come by

Are you looking for the winter jacket that matches your new airman battle uniform?

You may not find one. The all-purpose environmental camouflage parka — APEC for short — is as hard to come by as the Nintendo Wii.

“We’re not delivering them as fast as we’d like to. We’re delivering them as fast as they are being produced,” the Air Force’s deputy chief of staff for personnel, Lt. Gen. Roger Brady, said Tuesday.

The jacket replaces the woodland or desert camouflaged Gore-Tex coat. The service’s first priority is getting the new jackets to the airmen who need them the most.

“It’s an all-weather jacket, and it is getting cold,” Brady said. “We’re focusing the distribution of those on the area of responsibility in areas where it is getting cold and other places where people have the more difficult winter weather.”
