INDIANAPOLIS — A ceremony will be held Jan. 2 for more than 3,400 Indiana soldiers who are being deployed in support of the war in Iraq.

The ceremony for the Indiana National Guard 76th Brigade Combat team will be held in the RCA Dome. It is not open to the general public because of reserved seating for family and friends of departing soldiers.

Speakers at the ceremony will include Gov. Mitch Daniels, Sen. Richard Lugar, Indianapolis Mayor-elect Greg Ballard and Maj. Gen. Martin Umbarger, the Indiana Guard’s adjutant general.

The troops include units from Columbus, Jasper, New Albany, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Indianapolis, Crawfordsville, Greencastle and Remington.

The troops will leave the ceremony for additional training at Fort Stewart, Ga., before joining U.S. forces involved in the war in March.
