CSM relieved amid allegations of misconduct

The command sergeant major at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy has been temporarily relieved of his responsibilities amid allegations of misconduct.

Command Sgt. Maj. Lonny Wright was temporarily relieved Dec. 5 by Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, commanding general of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Kan., the academy’s higher education headquarters.

The action came following a 15-6 administrative investigation launched by Maj. Gen. Robert Lennox, commanding general of Fort Bliss, Texas, where the academy is located, after unspecified allegations were brought against Wright. Wright has been in the position since June.

Wright may face full relief for cause or other Uniform Code of Military Justice action, but no decision has been made, according to a Fort Bliss statement.

“All options are being weighed by the appropriate authorities at this time and CSM Wright has inherent rights under military law that he is exercising during this process,” the Dec. 14 statement said.
