Dems Outraged Over Destroyed CIA Tapes

Dems Outraged Over Destroyed CIA Tapes
Associated Press | December 07, 2007

WASHINGTON - The Senate's No. 2 Democrat on Friday asked the Justice Department to investigate whether the CIA obstructed justice by destroying videotapes that documented the harsh 2002 interrogations of two alleged terrorists.

A day after CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden told agency employees the tapes were destroyed in 2005, members of Congress, human rights groups and lawyers for accused terrorists said the tapes may have been key evidence that the U.S. government had illegally authorized torture.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Friday that President Bush did not have any recollection about the tapes or about their destruction.

"I spoke to the president this morning about this. He has no recollection of being made aware of the tapes or their destruction before yesterday" when he was briefed by Hayden, she said.

In a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois asked for a probe of "whether CIA officials who destroyed these videotapes and withheld information about their existence from official proceedings violated the law."

1. When you announce to the world and your opposition
that the one tool you have to hold them accountable is off the table, well your opposition is sure to think it is a free for all. Add to that the fact that congress allows most of their subpoenas to be ignored with no repercussions then you have just created the perfect environment for rampant fraud and corruption.

Democrats, the republican enablers.

2. I can only think that the democrats are so compromised the only thing they can do
is pretend to be shocked. If the real truth comes out they will be found complicit in this administration's crimes. What other explanation could there be for the failure to take actual action on any of the serious crimes this administration has committed? Time and time again they allow the unpopular GOP to take advantage of the situation no matter how dire it might be for them (the GOP.) Their conduct has been shameful and embarrassing.
