Fort Bragg NCO's Rape Case Begins
Fort Bragg NCO's Rape Case Begins
Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer | November 20, 2007

Testimony started Nov. 19 in the case of a Fort Bragg drill sergeant accused of raping one of his subordinates and assaulting another.

Prosecutors described the drill sergeant, Master Sgt. Roland Perez, as a man who used his position to make sexual advances toward multiple women. They said he tried to force several women -- including his ex-wife -- to kiss him inside his office, before dragging one of his subordinates into his office and raping her in October 2006.

Perez's lawyers argued that the women who made the allegations against him are not trustworthy. They said he had a consensual sexual relationship with the woman he is accused of raping and said she did not try to stop Perez on the day he is said to have raped her.

Perez was a drill sergeant with the 1st Psychological Operations Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group. The battalion falls under the Army's Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg.

Both sides said Perez and the woman had a consensual relationship in the months before she accused him of raping her.

Relationships between supervisors and subordinates are prohibited in the Army.
