Stone Recruiting for New Vietnam Film
The Commerical Appeal | November 08, 2007

Memphis, Tenn. - Oliver Stone is looking for a few good Memphians.

And if he finds them, the Oscar-winning director of "Platoon" will not only put them in his new Vietnam War movie with Bruce Willis but also fly them to Thailand at Christmastime for six to eight weeks of paid-room-and-board-plus-salary- and-some-expenses filmmaking.

Men ages 20-50 who think they could portray a soldier in Stone's "Pinkville" are invited to a casting call at FedExForum from 1 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 17.

Willis will play an Army general investigating the 1968 My Lai massacre, in which American Ssoldiers killed several hundred unarmed Vietnamese civilians.

Winsome Sinclair, head of Winsome Sinclair & Associates, the New York casting agency that is handling the event, said Tuesday that public auditions will be held only in New York and Memphis, so interested Mid-Southerners have a good chance of joining Stone's army.

Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commissioner Linn Sitler said the event could be "huge," and even outdraw the 2005 open casting call at The Pyramid for "Black Snake Moan," which attracted some 1,400 hopefuls. She said 2,000 or more people could show up.
