The Air Force is staying on the NASCAR circuit.

The service will be back for the 2008 stock car racing season as a sponsor of car No. 21, owned by Wood Brothers Racing. The service also co-sponsored No. 21’s 2007 campaign on the Nextel Cup series.

The Air Force Recruiting Service is paying $3.9 million to have the Air Force emblem and name on the Wood Brothers’ Ford. The team will also make special appearances promoting the Air Force.

As an associate sponsor, the Air Force had its logo and dark blue paint scheme featured on the No. 21 car during eight of 38 NASCAR races in the 2007 season. The same will be true in 2008.

As the 2007 season nears its end, the car is ranked 36th in the owner standings, with no top 10 finishes. Bill Elliott, Kenny Schraeder and Jon Wood have been among the drivers.

The Air Force isn’t the only branch of the Pentagon on the NASCAR circuit. The National Guard is a lead sponsor for Dale Earnhardt’s 2008 campaign in the No. 88 Chevrolet.
