BALTIMORE — A soldier from Baltimore has been arrested by Army authorities at a base in Oklahoma on charges in a gang-related shooting that wounded five people in the city.
Eighteen-year-old Jerrell Hill is charged with attempted murder and is awaiting extradition. A police spokesman said police believe Hill is a member of a Baltimore area Bloods gang, but authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
The Sept. 20 shooting happened near the 2400 block of Barclay Street. Police said at least three of the five shooting victims have ties to a rival gang.
Hill’s parents said their son returned to Fort Sill nine days before the shooting.
The Baltimore Sun reports one of the victims, 21-year-old Maxine Tate, is a sister of a gang member who pleaded guilty in the slaying of a Bloods member.
