A paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division died Sunday evening from injuries he sustained after his vehicle was involved in an accident on Yadkin Road in Fayetteville, N.C., officials announced Monday.

Spc. Randall Watson, 23, of Petaluma, Calif., was a cavalry scout with 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne, at Fort Bragg, N.C. The incident is under investigation by local authorities.

Watson joined the Army in January 2007 and completed cavalry scout one station unit training in June 2007 at Fort Knox, Ky. He moved on to the basic airborne course in July 2007 at Fort Benning, Ga., and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne in August 2007. He deployed to Afghanistan from September 2007 to April 2008. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Combat Action Badge. Watson is survived by his parents, Randall Watson Sr. and Victoria Watson.
