5. Boy Howdy.

The Legion here in town is the single most active watering hole in the area. Since they are a Legion, the bar pays no taxes on what they pour. Because of that, it is the cheapest bar in the area. Starting at noon it is open, and by 2:00pm it is hopping. By closing time it is packed. Apparently, some of them live there.

And, I might add, I have been there once, as a guest, a long time ago. What I heard at the bar, coming from people's mouths, was quite enough for one lifetime.

7. No help to veterans

Yes the legion post I am a member of tends to lean toward conservative. It does have a bar. The membership also puts in 2-3 thousand hours a year volunteer work at the local VA hospital. We have a standing committee that runs interference for veterans that have problems with the VA system. BTW, we do not have a bingo operation.

They refer to it as "an extremist group of radicalized veterans". It apparently has a history of involvement in coup plotting and supporting fascism.

They vehemently opposed Clinton's military action in the Balkans, but considers protests against the Iraq war to be almost tantamount to treason.
