European briefs: Base bar off-limits to junior hospital personnel

NAPLES, Italy — Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating two incidents of alleged sexual misconduct involving two female sailors at the support site base bar, O’Rhy’s, on Dec. 20.

Officials provided scant details on either incident.

Base security was contacted about the incidents Dec. 21. That same day, security turned the cases over to NCIS because the incidents involved "felony-level criminal complaints within the Department of the Navy," according to base officials.

The two women involved in the incidents are assigned to Naval Hospital Naples, Italy. As a result of the incidents, the bar, which is the only one on base, is off-limits to all E5 and below sailors assigned to the hospital, by order of the hospital commanding officer.

"It would be inappropriate to give any further information as the incident is under investigation," according to a written statement provided by Lt. Paul Macapagal, Naval Support Activity, Naples public affairs officer.
