OCEANSIDE, Calif. — It looks like the third time might not have been the charm for two people arrested for allegedly trying to rob one of Camp Pendleton’s base exchanges on Sunday evening.

Members of the provost marshal’s office who responded to the Stuart Mesa exchange “prevented the robbery” and arrested one suspect, identified only as a civilian, base officials said in a press release Monday.

A second suspect, also identified only as a civilian, was arrested Monday morning, they said.

Both individuals were in federal custody on Monday and were being held at the jail in downtown San Diego.

It’s not clear whether the exchange, which is open until 8 p.m. on Sundays, was open to customers at the time. Base officials did not say what time the attempted robbery occurred and did provide any details of this incident or the previous two, but they said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service was investigating the case.
