Cherry Point Marines return from Afghanistan

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. — More than 250 Marines will return to Cherry Point after a seven-month deployment to southern Afghanistan.

The Marines returning Sunday are the last group to return. More than 800 Marines from various detachments attached to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365 returned to Cherry Point this week. The composite squadron is made up of various cargo and attack helicopters and provided air support for the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit spearheaded combat operations in Helmand province.
