The Corps has announced the units that will round out the Marine Air-Ground Task Force, expected to deploy to Afghanistan in the coming weeks.

Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466, out of Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, Calif., and Combat Logistics Battalion 3, out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii will replace the Marines set to depart Afghanistan in November, according to Marine Corps spokesman Maj. David Nevers.

The Corps announced in September that 2,000 Marines will supplant the 3,400 who have been deployed to southern Afghanistan since spring.

The recently named units will join 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., the MAGTF’s ground element, and 3rd Marines, out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which will serve as the headquarters section.

The ad hoc task force is scheduled to replace 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif., and the Lejeune-based 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
