Donley confirmed as Air Force secretary

The Senate confirmed Michael B. Donley on Thursday to be the 22nd Air Force secretary.

Donley has been serving as acting secretary since June 21, the day after Michael W. Wynne stepped down as secretary following the call for his resignation from Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

President Bush nominated Donley for the position on June 26, but his confirmation was held up in committee in late July.

The Senate also confirmed Gen. William Fraser III to become Air Force vice chief of staff. The former vice chief, Gen. Duncan J. McNabb, took over U.S. Transportation Command in September.

Fraser previously served as the assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before taking over for McNabb.
