AAFES gas prices drop in Germany, U.K.
By Matt Millham, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Friday, September 26, 2008

Gas prices will plunge as much as 11.7 cents a gallon Saturday at Army and Air Force Exchange Service locations in Germany and 11 cents in the United Kingdom, a week after two recent hurricanes caused prices to surge.

The price of regular gas, sold only in Germany, falls 11.7 cents to $3.927, while midgrade drops to just a fraction above $4 in the U.K. That’s the cheapest gas there.

Diesel prices are mixed, falling 6.5 cents in the U.K., but rising 14.6 cents in Germany and 6 cents in the Netherlands. Gas prices in the Netherlands are down at least 16 cents.

Gas and diesel prices in Italy, meanwhile, will remain at current prices through the end of October.

Despite massive cuts in oil production and refinery capacity, U.S. prices continued to move lower Thursday with a national average of $3.70 a gallon — 1.5 cents less than a day earlier — according to the American Automobile Association.
