SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Police say two Fort Lewis deserters have been living the past two months as transients, breaking into homes and pawning property.

The two, 21-year-old Michael Grenkavich and 22-year-old Mitchell Rea, were arrested Tuesday and jailed in Spokane for investigation of theft and stolen property charges.

The two say they served 15 months in Iraq with a Stryker brigade, became addicted to drugs and deserted in July.

In addition to the prosecution in Spokane, they will face additional charges from the Army.
