Better-than-expected retention has led Navy officials to drop many selective re-enlistment bonus levels in the first update to the program in almost a year.

Multiples for 115 skill and re-enlistment zone combinations will decrease, and 46 will go away altogether, officials announced Aug. 28.

However, 159 award levels will increase, including one naval enlisted classification that moved into the $90,000 ceiling category, the highest in the military services. Another 311 award levels are unchanged.

In the last SRB list, released Oct. 2, 184 award levels increased, while just 72 decreased or were eliminated.

“We are very fortunate that retention is high for most ratings, although we’d like to stress that we are still in need of the critical ratings that are receiving either the same SRB or an increase,” said Vice Adm. Dan Holloway, who directs the Navy’s manpower, personnel, training and education efforts for the chief of naval personnel in Arlington, Va.
